Remember back in the day when the sportsman was flavour of the month, a well know older cypriot cash game player lost £180k pot and still came out a winner one particular evening allegedly!

Good old Monday night club!

OK I've sorted most of my EPL spread bets for the season. Thought I would share what they are and we'll see how I do over the season. I'd like to think I've taken the right side of the lines, but am not delusional that I'm a sports betting fiend and have made a bunch of sharky bets. I'm paying any juice there is for a season long sweat which I know I'll love. Won't say amounts but will give you an idea of where I've gone big.

Teams bought (taken overs)

Middlesborough 39.5 points: 4 units (per point)
Stoke 45.5 points: 2 units
Spurs 67.5 points: 1 unit
West Ham 55 points: 1 unit

Teams sold (taken unders)

Man City 75.5 points: 3 units
Leicester 54.5 points: 3 units

Other bets:

Chelsea vs Arsenal 2 units per point.
Chelsea top 4 at 8/13: 25 units.

Gone huge on Chelsea. The top 4 bet is with a guy that I had credit with and wanted to gamble with rather than cash out. It's my biggest ever sports bet. Come on team Kante/Conte!

Excluding both unders I everything looks good. Especially Chelsea's bet, as if me exclude this nonsense about Man U challenging for title (why? Because of 35 year old striker? Still no defence, still no Pogba...). Chelsea's Top 4 looks like steal.

No Man City will be very close to 76 points... But Leicester... Well They definitely wont win, but I think this bet will destroy all other profits for you... 55 points is probably 9th or 10th place... I think Leicester will do better than that, there is really no reason why they shouldn't do...

That's is the point (besides the fact that last season overall has been exception rather than normality). Who is in ManUtd defense? Young promising ones from last season ARE ON SALE. Can we really expect defence of Smalling, Blind, Rojo and..Huh?? Darmianni? to really challenge for title? Ok they bought Bailey, but cannot see him being some kind of wonder... Point is in EVERY club before Mourinho has pretty good defences... Carvalho, Terry, A.Cole, Ivanovic, Pepe, Varane, Marcelo, Lucio, Chivu... In DM Cambiasso, Makelele etc etc etc. Cannot see a single player of that calibre in Man Utd at the moment. Therefore to call them close 2nd favourites for title is bigger bookies mistake than Leicester had been last year. Period.

The point is that they have the best defence in the league but they have no defence?

If you put down the Daily Mail you might realise the ones who will be let go are the ones not good enough. CBJ just signed a new contract. Mourinho said "The potential is there, you could see it immediately. You know him better than me of course as you’ve known for a few years and I’ve known him for a couple of weeks, but if anyone sees him for the first time then 10 minutes is enough to see the potential” about Tuanzebe. Fosu mensah agent has come out an said any talk of an exit are rubbish. There's only Blackett (maybe McNair) that will be sold.

No it will be Smalling, Bailly, Shaw and Valencia. Rojo was a huge liability last season and I suspect will never play for United again. Blind will play vs teams when we control possession and Bailly as he is much quicker and more athletic will play vs stronger offensive teams.

Well now he has the best defence in the league so I think he'll manage. Whether on paper they are anywhere close to the best set of players is a matter of opinion and I don't think they are, but the FACT is they were last season and have gotten a lot stronger this season.

I'm a United fan, but I think most people would agree United's 'relatively' good goals against record (35 goals conceded isn't exceptional by any means, look at their record in the Fergie post-93 era) last season was largely a product of LVG's no risk style - pass-pass-pass, side to side, keep the ball, suddenly it's half time and 0-0 again.

However, to say they have 'no defence' is ridiculous - you don't think the likes of Shaw, Blind, Smalling would be snapped up by the top four? Having one of the world's top three goalies usually improves a defence too.

United will improve hugely this season - Mkhitarayan (German player's player of the year), Zlatan (best player in France last year), Bailly (wonderkid defender) and Pogba (deal is done for arguably best player in Italy last year) - add in Jose and I can definitely see us competiting for the PL.

I've halved the stakes on my leicester bet, taking into account advice on her. Agree that there's massive downside to that one and looks like Vardy and Mahrez both staying so who knows.

@Matt, yeh not being able to get a mortgage has to be the most annoying thing about playing poker - definitely should've made the list. I'm still saving to buy a house or flat, but it's taking a while with house prices in London and having all sorts of setbacks such as not winning $8m in the main this year. Buying a house is  no1 financial goal pretty much though.

Never checked my credit score, sure you can guess at it, don't mind checking so long as it's not a tedious process.

No thoughts about retirement. Hope I've won and saved up enough I guess / Victoria's contributions help. Long way away that though! Should I stick with poker for all those years, I Imagine it won't be a retirement more like a cutting down and like you say keeping it as a hobby.

Clearscore do a free credit score, doesn't take long to do but it does ask questions based on your credit report to verify who you are so can be a test of your memory.

Hugely exciting opportunity came up a couple of days ago, and I've grabbed it with both hands.

On Monday I'll be flying on a private jet to Rosvadov, to play 3 nights of €50/100 (plus straddles) cash games in the Kings Casino! With superstars like Fedor Holz and Igor Kurganov and also plenty of rich business guys and other recreational players. The owner of the casino is flying us out, putting us up, and flying us back (me to Barcelona!). What a guy! The team from on the UK plane is 6 of us - Rob Y, Sam T, Nik P, Rich B, Wadey and me!

I would say this was the biggest opportunity of my career so far, not just in terms of how lucrative the games could be, but in terms of doors this could open up for the future.

I've sold 50% of my action, so it's not too dissimilar to stakes I already play, but from what I've heard about the games, they play very big, so this is still a "shot".

The games should be streamed, though there's side games so who knows what game I'll be in.

Excited is an understatement! And that's just for the Premier League starting in one hour...

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.
