Great post from Dave as always. Absolute hero. Cannot stress this enough.

My problem is mostly my attitude. I remember, even back in the Gala days, even during some big downswings, I'm always head to work with the feeling Alex described: I'm a poker pro and I love it. Recently I've just gone off the rails a little. My attitude walking into Dusk has been, "please don't run horribly again, I cannot bare to take another hit." Obviously this is dumb, and it's a terrible state of mind, but I'm not going to win with this attitude. I'm not blowing my own cock when I say my A-game has been fantastic recently, but that just makes it more frustrating when I run bad. Then I end up doing weird stuff with weird hands just to get out of it. Can't handle that coaster five or six times a week at the moment.

I did take a shot, up about £15k since I started recording in August. Money probably isn't a massive problem, but it certainly feels like it. I know variance is just that, and everyone has to deal with swings, but at the rate things are going, this downswing will deplete a decent chunk of my roll. I will be keeping it seperate from anything I earn from dealing so when I do play (and I will pop in every now and again when I remember that I lovethegame) I won't be thinking "that was x hours' work." But when I'm doing the shopping, I will be thinking "that costs x hours' work" rather than "that costs everything I earned in the last month/session/hand."

One potential plan is to come back to the felt towards the end of the year. In the meantime, I will be looking for various freelance work writing/logo designing/promoting in the meantime. Need to find inner peace while I'm there. Cheesy May still be updating the diary occasionally. Needs a makeover though. Tales of a Happy Whale perhaps.

Also think about what you're going into - dealing 50/1 and bowl freezeouts in Genting is just going to be immensely frustrating, mind numbing and boring. No offence meant to the guys that work there - Richard is a great guy and working with him and the other ex DTD lot will be fun at times I'm sure. But remember how you felt about dealing at DTD a year ago? You'll have to work certain hours, you'll be on basically minimum wage and you just won't feel as good about yourself. Don't tell me it doesn't feel great walking into DTD everyday as a pro, playing the biggest game in the building, crushing it and winning a months wages in a night?

This is spot on advice. Why would you? Possibly the best advice on this site to date.

After losing a 45k pot at the 400/800/100 level, villain in the hand says "I'm embarrassed about the way I played that." As annoyed as I was to lose a bunch of chips, I'm so glad to finally hear that from one of many perpetrators. Seriously though, poker requires luck and that is something that I flat out do not possess an ounce of. Sorry to those who backed me. Blame the dealer. He gave me an ace and a king. Looking forward to starting at Derby next week. I imagine I'll see some of you there
