Once upon a time I didn't have enough money to travel to Latvia with the boys, and all the king's horses and all the king's men didn't realise how boring it was being broke.

I did just come up with a thousand jokes about the car parked in front of mine outside. I decided upon "were there no good spaces on the sides of the road?". Then I realised the car belonged to a friend of my mother's. Who brought a friend. Who brought a screaming child. On the surface this is bad news because - well - children. They're not good for much. Unless you like the smell of shit. But it's good practice for when all the players-that-don't-play-for-a-living (that rolls off the tongue nicely... feels like we should come up with a neutral title to describe this sort of player in one word) have a piss and moan about absolutely nothing, such as the "sitting with the minimum" conundrum that took four people and 20 minutes to piece together the other night in an otherwise calm and collected £1/2 game.

And that is about as dejected as it's going to get for a while. Going to go and win another grand tonight in the PLO game I reckon. Suppose I'll have a trip report for Will. Smiley

ALL the "players-that-don't-play-for-a-living"?

.. feels like we should come up with a neutral title to describe this sort of player in one word

rec [rɛk]
noun

1. Short-hand for 'recreational poker player'. A poker player who does not play for a living, and is likely to be (although not forced to be) a net money loser at poker.
2. A silly term that could lead to lots of confusion in forum posts, especially when mistaken for (or mistyped as) 'reg' which has the exact opposite meaning.

I sort of like this term, and I sort of don't. What does everyone else think?

Fishbowls, Droolers, Zonkeys, Bluff monkey, Tard , Spaz, Dizzonk, 66er, Fishcake, Fishstick, Donk, Payoffwizard. ATM Whatever.

Its not Seans fault solely or at all for that matter players have no monies coupled with the fact that he has a great sense of humour. But no fun police
are stating that nobody should use derogatory terms for recreational players now there are a lack of them.

My advice would be dont tap the tank in the first place. Young guns at the tables spouting off about game theory when there is
absolutely no need and they should just be GIQ but ego wont allow.

Seans a pleasure to be with on the felt (So are you Alex this is in no way a dig) and always creates a freindly table, alot of players should
take a leaf out of his book and other players like Mitch who create the same kind of atmosphere.

I obviously agree its bad form to berate any player at the table but when they stack us or donate chunks
think its only fair to have a little fun. Rant over. Glad you are back mett. Yessssssssssssss

I know i was refering to another thread where Sean was asked not to call players FISH(could have been a level).
Apologies for not stating this in my post but as i always say "i never was very good at england as a schoolchildren"

I know what you were referring to. I was one of those who agreed that we should try our best to avoid the term 'fish'. It wasn't directed at Sean though. And I don't think it means I am in the fun police.

The problem with "non-pros" is that some "pros" don't bring a completely professional package to the table, so it's difficult to dub pros and non-pros based solely on merit. If by "pro" you mean somebody who plays full time, well then that includes someone like me and I feel it would be audacious to describe myself as a professional anything. I'm just someone who couldn't get a job in the real world. For the sake of forum etiquette though, I suppose those that share my opinion (which is usually equal to, or less than zero people) can live with it.
