Nice start to your diary. What have been your poker highlights thus far? Where can you see yourself in 3 years time?
Thank you.
It's tough to call anything thus far a highlight as such. I've had a few results in the nightly comps at Dusk, but nothing that stands out as truly astounding. There was this one time last summer where I had an epic PLO swonnnnng, where I started running ridiculously good and moving up stakes far too quickly. This ended with me two tabling $1k hu sngs versus TheCranium. [ ] won both.
It's hard to say where I see myself. I mean my problem for a long time was staying away from roulette. If I took a bad beat, I would blow up and try and get my money back immediately on red or black. So, assuming I've grown out of that, I will be in three years time where I should be now. Braceletville.
Nice post so far m8, keep it up. It's all in the timing.

Trip Report - Broadway Casino, Birmingham
After Alex's cunning satnav sent us round in a massive circle before deciding it had laughed at our utter dependance long enough, we arrived at the Boradway Plaza at around 1am. There was a small waiting list, and killed the time by spectating the £2/5 PLO and just wishing I had the roll to play it. Not only were the players there playing every hand completely face up, they were actually showing every hand even when the hand didn't go to showdown. Yum yum.
The scene for the whole night was set in the third hand I was dealt. Immediately remembered why I love Birmingham when I noticed players limping the late positions without being adequately punished. So I'm just limping along in the cutoff with
, and we flop a draw on
. Checked to me, I lead for just over half pot and pick up two callers. Of course we turn the dream
. Check/check/bet/call/fold. River was brickalicious. Checked to me, I bet exactly half of villains chipstack like a genius. He tanks. And tanks. And sighs. And calls. With the same hand. WTF. I felt I deserved a bigger portion of the pot than half due to being the least retarded player in the hand. I said "do you rake split pots here?" The dealer tells me there is no rake in Broadway, they take session fees. 'At least half of my profit wasn't chewed up by the rake monster,' I thought to myself as I was stacking what was mostly my own chips back up. The floor manager strolls past, content as can be. "Sessions!" he called to his dealers. Sigh. Long night ahead...
A few hands later, in the same orbit, nine limpers to my BB. We squeeze the
and make it £22. The aforementioned T8 retard calls, as does some serial loose passive drunk guy. Flop
. I bet a weak-looking £35 to set up a shove on the turn, and T8 retard calls. The turn is the
and we ship it for his last £95. T8 retard tanks. And tanks. And sighs. And calls. With
. This called for a table change.
I moved to the table behind me, where I had Alex somewhere to my left, and two Nottingham Gala regs to my right. Now I know why I made the journey all the way down here. facepalm.gif. I slowplayed
versus Alex's
on
, just to ensure that I lost the maximum. Peeled a raise in the BB to see a flop five ways with
. Flop was
. I donked the flop for £23, setting one player all-in for £20, and picked up another caller. The
turn card was enough for me to get villain's last £80 in with. He snaps with
and I obviously don't fill up.
Was happy for the most part with how I played. Won plenty of no showdown pots, and hero called with K8 high and was right. Left Broadway losing £370, but I hit up Gala on the way home and scooped up £160 in two hours of play for a net loss of £210 for the night. I don't usually complain, but I really feel like I'm running incredibly bad at the moment. Just on the wrong side of coolers all the time, missing all my draws and chopping the one time I get there, etc. This is a massive shame, because I've never been happier with my game. It doesn't feel like I'm doing a lot wrong. Just need to get there more.

Started last night's Gala session in the polar opposite fashion to the Broadway. Sat down and was given an incredibly warm welcome by a bunch of guys I'd never met before, all out on a stag do. "Look at the way he's doing that with his chips! He must be a student that plays poker for work," I love getting credit for being a student. At least I don't
look
like I've failed life thus far. As a forfeit for being on the phone to his girlfriend whilst on a stag do, his friends force the Hugh Grant doppelganger to move all-in for £40. Folded to me in the big blind.
. Easy game. As a bonus for me, the same guy who misread me as someone with an education goes, "two kings, wow. You really are a good player," and unintentionally levels the whole table into thinking I'm the luckiest man alive. I used this as an opportunity to run down the whole table, and laugh at some of the weird and wonderful things people were folding face up to my c-bets.
Always-a-two Jimmy decided he'd seen enough and took a stand against my dominance, 5betting me all-in for a £360 pot.
again. Easy ga- Oh an ace on the river. Of course you have
. Nothing like setting up for the big ones and never winning them. [ ] Oh well, at least his chips weren't locked up now. Gave him plenty of needle a few hands later when I raised
from the hijack. Picked up two callers, and Jimmy folds from the big blind but flips his cards:
. Flop comes down
. The absolute nut turn of events, as I pick up three streets of value from villain's
. Weeeee.
Finished the night winning a meager £90, and being accused of colluding with the gentleman to my right by some drunk guy. I shrugged it off, but I feel I should ask: how seriously do you take it when you're accused of cheating by lowlifes? Given that in the same evening I was also accused of taking a degree in maths, I don't think it's my image; but this isn't the first time I've been accused of colluding. Obviously anyone that knows me knows that I'm an honourable guy, but I've never been able to stick up for myself in situations because I hate confrontation. Any similar experiences/opinions/advice?

I usually tell the guy to call the floor if he think I'm colluding. He'll either
a) not call the floor and look like an idiot
b) call the floor and have no idea what to say other than 'I think he's cheating'. In which case he'll look like an idiot
c) call the floor and come up with some bs explanation as to why he thinks that you're colluding. In which case the floor will tell him he's an idiot

I agree. They can call me an idiot or a clueless fish (both true) but if they question your integrity then that's a different matter, especially as others who hear the comments might take them at face value.
So how were you colluding?

So how were you colluding?
I don't mind having my integrity questioned by an idiot, but of course I don't want regs to think that I'm cheating obv.
I overheard the guy muttering about "those two working together" as he reluctantly folded his hand. Then a reg to my left (not the guy I was being accused of colluding with) said to me "that guy is looking at you like he knows you." I thought nothing of it, maybe he was just frustrated about folding a lot when he clearly came to gamble. Then there was a pot a few hands later where I raised pre, picked up three callers, and when I c-bet the flop, only "my accomplice" called. To anyone that knew anything about cards, it was pretty clear that we were the only two capable players at the table, and we were just discussing a few hands, etc. But the drunk guy suggested that I'd "raised, nudged the guy, made a big bet on the flop, and asked him to call so one of us would definitely win the pot," when he was to my immediate right and I'd win the pot if he folded anyway.
I suppose normally I would call the floor, but this is Nottingham Gala, and it appears all the floor staff - when not completely absent from the gaming floor - have the spine of a jellyfish and bringing them over would most likely accomplish nothing. I guess if it happens again, that should be my port of call.

lol. fuck em sean. word of warning with weak floor staff. they tend to go with the guy making most noise so be prepared to fight your corner. i always go out of my way to be nice to dealers and floor staff as they often start out on your side
