I fucked up today really, had an unexpected stressful day at work(still working now lol) and ended up scoffing 1500 calories, which isn't the end of the world but probs 2-300 more than I wanted and a lot of the wrong stuff, bread etc.. Planned to go to the gym, but just couldn't in the end cus of work shafting me.

Back on it properly tomorrow and 100% doing gym!

To put it in perspective Woodsey to put 1lb on you need to eat 3500 calories over maintenance so I wouldn't sweat it m8. Do an extra 10mins on the bike or something if you feel that guilty Smiley

Yeah I know, it was more the fact that was scoffing stuff that was unplanned really and lost a bit of control there, and the fact I ate way too much bread. At the end of the day if 1500 calories a day is a bad day for me over the 12 weeks I know I will deffo have lost weight at the end of it.

Ok using the gucci excel calculator a friend sent me I have managed to get some exact numbers and surprisingly enough I wasn't too far off with how I was eating the last few days.

My BMR is 2139

At present I am sedentary so my requirement to maintain is 2567

In theory to lose 1lb a week I obviously drop to 2067 and for 2lbs 1567

...

It's a reasonable guide - but I wouldn't put all your faith in exact figures.

To actually work out your BMR isn't really possible without some pretty high tech stuff, and even then the balance of calories, fat, sugar etc. is what makes a difference rather than just the number of calories.

I'd read those figures and statistically I'd round them to an everyday target of 1500-2000; and if you have a 'bad' day make sure it doesn't go over 2500 - for example.

Something has drastically gone wrong this week. I made two changes from last week, one was taking an Acai berry suppliment and the other was replacing my evening shake/bar with a low carb and low calorie meal - have maintained a 2lb loss for the whole week. Measurements have also stayed the same.  I stopped the meals on weds and now i am stopping the Acai suppliments as i have read they can be high in natural sugar which is what is probs stopping me getting into ketosis. Does anyone else take suppliments or anything?
Have been reading about a suppliment called Capsiplex - has some very good reviews around the place but obv could just be a huge marketing campain. Claims to be able to make you burn x12 more calories when you exercise. Gonna be nowhere near my self imposed double fig target on weigh in.

Don't think you will get into ketosis with that diet...

I'd suggest following a prescribed diet purpose-built to achieve ketosis if that is what you are looking to do.  Having a "lo carb" evening meal is very unlikely to be part of it tho.  That said, once you are in ketosis, you can eat a certain amount and stay there (a few ounces of lean meat for example)

Whatever that diet is, it should include all the vitamins/nutrients you need.  However, I have added some tablets to mine, just things that seem to be 'working'  I take garlic pills (cholesterol) vit-C (boost to immune system) pro-biotic pills (help with wind!) and movicol once every few days (just to keep the trap door moving  Lips Sealed )

Tbh mate, I don't care how overweight you are, your expectation of anything close to a double fig loss is just nuts. If you aim for 5 or 6 lbs that would at least be realistic even if it's still more than most think is sensible.

Milligan have you posted your normal daily food intake?

No, but everyday it has been VLCD shake for brekkie, VLCD Shake/Soup for lunch and either Tuna and salad for tea, chicken and salad, mince and parmesan with salad. The only carbs i am eating is in my salad. with on avg 2 litres of water

VLCD X3 shakes gets you into ketosis, but i read on a diet forum called minimins that you can replace a shake with a low carb meal and stay in ketosis, thats why i questioned the ACAI berries.

@Galloway

Think you are right at just sticking to the VLCD, some people seem to be able to mix and match but doesnt look like working for me atm. Felt much more sustainable though having an evening meal. Shake in the car on the way to work is ideal and shake or soup at my desk at lunch is also really conveniant. it is something i have done for nearly 2 weeks now and can see me doing for a long long time. Gonna have a look at Movicol. Have had some shady stomach pains of late.

Kool, sounds like you're doing pretty well diet wise.

When you say your only carbs are in your salad, what do you mean?

Also, what exercise are you doing amongst this?

How are you finding the shakes enjoyment-wise?

What times are they and what times do you wake up and go to sleep?

That apart from stuff which is just protein, the only thing i physically eat is the carbs (good carbs?) which are in lettuce, onion and stuff.

Tues,weds,sat/sun 30 mins cross trainer at about 7pm. avg level 6. My back is still pretty bad so i have to stick to low impact until my core strength has increased significantly. this will be easier once i have shifted signifcant weight.

Some of the shakes are lush. caramel, choc banana, red fruits. Some are horrendous but next time i order i will just pick the ones i like.

Wake up at 6am bed on avg 11pm

What they say is that they burn 12 x more calories than other fat burning pills on the market. This is very thin to what your original statement pointed out in burning 12 times more calories when you exercise.

fyp.

All down to interpretation i guess. The claim is strong anyways. My original point was has anyone tried these?

This is a thread for fat people. Go start your own ginger thread somewhere else.

ps. can i still come round tonight? much love.

Once you got into ketosis, you probably can go down to 3 shakes and a (close to zero) carb meal.  The problem is, getting into ketosis is harder than staying there!  It really is a case of 4x VLCD shakes a day, water and nothing else for about 2-3 days to get the job done.

And I'd prolly recommend doing a week of that, just to get you in the groove, then switch to 3x shakes and 1x sensible lo-carb meal for decent weight loss.  However, ketosis is a delicate balance, the slightest over-round on anything can take you out of it again.  Whilst in ketosis, the hunger pangs disappear and many people just find it easier to stay there than trying to juggle food too.  GL
