I gotta confess at this point I've had 5 slices of toast for breakfast   That's the first bit of unplanned bad food I've put down my trap so far, well the extra 3 slices anyway  Sad

Only got 5-600 calories left to eat in the day now, and I deffo have to go to the gym after that lapse.

The 'How many meals a day' debate is quite interesting. There are good arguments for having six small meals. but then there are also good arguments for having just two good meals.

I'm in the 'Two meals' camp myself.

Interesting piece on the wireless yesterday about dieting, &/or maintaining a "healthy" weight.

Geezer reckoned that it's better if you don't "bolt" your food down fast, while, for example, watching TV or whatever.

He reckoned - & I'm just repeating what he said - that if you use a knife & fork (not everyone does, as it happens), it helps if you put the knife & fork down between "mouthfuls", & this sort of encourages you to eat & digest the food more slowly, which, allegedly, is better. Similarly, turn the TV off & concentrate on the meal, savour it, da de da.

Needs a gatters ruling, imo.

afaic, if you want to lose a bit of weight, just cut out all shite food, all sugar, all spuds & bread, & 3lbs per week will fall off easy peasy, nothing is more reliable, or more simple. imo, of course.

I'm not advocating this, it may well be bullshit, but it is an argument for less than 3.

I happen to know that you are a one or two meals a day man when you're in weight loss mode.

I actually think you should have more, you don't want to starve yourself. Just make the portions smaller.

Alan Sugar endorses the small fork diet. So you physically can't fit as much food on your utensil therefore taking longer to eat and your brain believes you are full or something. I obv just eat with my big digger hands anyway.

Correct. One meal a day is plenty, (for me), it's more than sufficient to maintain my energy levels, which are pretty high given my age, I'm usually on the go from 6am until after midnight. I drink plenty, though, just good stuff, flavoured water, beef extract (Oxo cubes), that sort of thing. I'm not "recommending" it, not at all, but it works for me. But then again, I like my diets to be bish bash bosh jobbies.

That's quite interesting. Sometimes when I eat on the go, I use the fish-disgorger attachment on my knife as a makeshift fork.

It causes me to go slow, but I always seem to find the meals particularly satisfying. I don't know if it's because I'm outdoors, or because of the 'Small fork' thing.

my understanding of this based on a few things I've read in the past is that the only real benefit to putting your knife and fork down between mouthfuls is for portion control. your brain doesn't get the 'I'm full' message for something like 20 minutes after you start eating so if you've got a massive plateful in front of you that you would normally wolf down in 10 mins but you take your time over it and only eat 1/2 of it in double you're usual time you probably won't finish it off. if you just serve yourself up a sensible sized meal in the first place however it doesn't really matter. some diet control type peeps get the same effect by getting clients to eat using cocktail sticks as cutlery (this is basically what milligan posted while I was writing this)

slowing down to aid digestion sounds like utter nonsense. in general you're eating food from one of 2 extremes-

either modern overprocessed, hyperpalatable grub in which case it would be impossible to make it more digestible and slowing down your eating would serve no purpose, it's designed to just slide down the throat with minimum effort

or proper freshly produced food in which case you've got very little choice but to slow down, chew and savour

That's the real secret of successful dieting. If you want to, you will. It assumes, of course, that we possess normal self-control. It's not like any of us are going to suffer from malnutrition any time soon, is it?!
