"I'm no party animal and would prefer a quiet hotel ,with a gym and swimming pool ideally not too far away from the poker action."

Vdara is the obvious answer; no casino, but between Aria and Bellagio, centre strip and all done out in marble.

Have stayed there before myself and happy to stay there again, essentially for the reasons you gave above. I don't drink, am not fussed about gambling and like not having walk through a hundred yards of acrid smoke, past twentysomethings in neon beachwear, hi-fiving each other over the paigow tables, just to get to and from my room.

Because the hotel has no interest in getting you downstairs, you get lots of bang for your buck in the room.

Has a Starbucks and a little deli shop on the ground floor. At least it did last June (can't imagine that's changed).

Congratulations on the win, btw. Your post was thinner than Verndog's "I would like to buy some dollars" thread.

If Simon reads this an indication of Vdara costs would be appreciated

Just a couple of questions if anyone can help

Going to Vegas 28th-5th via Sky and you get £1k expenses. The hotel is covered for that period you just have to book your own travel arrangements.

Probably going to fly from Manchester and I've noticed the flights are quite a bit cheaper than via London. Does anyone have any experience flying with Condor to Vegas or Thomas cook for that matter ?
i've seen direct flights from £590 - £740 throughout the week 22nd - 26th as i would like to extend the stay a little longer as i feel a week is just to short.

Secondly what cheaper hotels are recommended in that time span - 5 nights - 22nd - 28th looking most likely. i was waiting for the poker schedules for most places to be announced before booking but would like it booked and sorted this month ideally.

Golden nugget / harrahs / Ti / the mirage i'm guessing as i plan on playing poker every day in that time span Tournaments and some cash.

Hey Ben.

Condor and Thomas Cook are basically the same thing. It's all TC aircraft. Only used them the once and that was flying home from LV last May. They have recently started to upgrade their long haul fleet, so it's a flip as to whether you get a newer interior or not. Not sure entirely what changes they are making, but I know one of them is to upgrade the seatback TV's to on demand entertainment as opposed to the looped shit that is a bit old hat these days. In my experience they were ok, nothing to shout about, but the convenience of flying direct from/to Manchester is definitely its biggest appeal, as their fares tend to be a couple hundred cheaper than the only other option (Virgin Atlantic).

Not stayed at any of the hotels mentioned; have done Planet Hollywood and Flamingo, which are both cheap, functional and in amongst the action on the strip.

5 nights is 23rd-28th btw Wink

Thanks for the info, yeah i guessed they was the same as each flight left at exactly the same time and returned the same time just stating different airlines.

5nights 22nd -27th then Sad 28th would be check in day for the Palazzo.

Yeah, not sure why Condor and TC prices sometimes differ as the product is identical.

If you want 5 nights initially before moving to Palazzo, make sure you book 23-28! 28th is the day you check out whatever hotel you book and move over to the Palazzo. If you did 22-27 then you'd be homeless for the night of the 27th. Apologies if I come across as a pedantic prick Smiley

I'm biased, because I stay there every year now, but The Nugget has released their schedule for the summer, and it's pretty good over the dates you're looking at.

Great to see that you are gonna be there Ben.  Depends on where you think you are gonna be playing?  If you reckon that you will just be grinding the Rio then Gold Coast or the Rio is fine and drives down expenses too, plus you won't need to spend on cabs each day.

No problem hadhsgdbdyshdb Smiley a little tired today lets just say Tuesday 22nd to sun the 28th ! 6 nights Smiley

The golden nugget is currently top of the list because there schedule is announced and looks ok. I wanted to play a few diff places this year Venetian deep stack / golden nugget / Rio basically what ever I thinks the best tourny on the days I plan on playing so without knowing all the poker schedules it's a guessing game.

I do plan on playing the $1500 dym wsop event at the Rio though that's pretty much 100%. With wanting to play a few diff places wouldn't somewhere like harrahs/the mirage be a better location ?

I can't remember the price of a cab from say harrahs to golden nugget though and vice versa depending where I stay. Could be best to hold off a couple weeks and wait for more of the tourny schedules to come out ?

If you're happy to just splash around in the tournaments at the Nugget/Binions for those 5/6 days, the Nugget will be perfect. However, if you're wanting to play at a bunch of diff places that week, you don't want to be downtown, as you'll do a fair bit of money on cabs.

Once you're at the Palazzo, it's easy to navigate up and down the strip, and you're much closer to the Rio, too.

Booked Vdara again for the summer.

Pros:
I haven't found a better room for the same money (~£100/day)
Full size fridge is great in summer, loads of extra water/fruit/drinks in there, saves a fortune compared to the gift shop/vending machine
Additional living space means time spent working in the room is more tolerable
Washing machine + dryer means sports kit doesn't honk and you can pack really light (Get a good maid and tip her well and washing gets folded/dried, dishes get washed etc etc.)
Easy access via Dean Martin means I hardly ever drive on or across the strip
Great food options/bars in Bellagio/Aria/Cosmo all a stone's throw.
Can always get a bed by the pool

Cons
Once you go back to the Vdara, that really is gg for the night.  At other properties some of the best nights out I've ever had have been after intending to go to bed at 2, having a drink downstairs, bumping into a couple of old faces and/or binking at the tables and then going to bed at midday instead..
You can obviously stay cheaper elsewhere
I've stayed here a few times and it would be good to stay somewhere I haven't stayed before (I just couldn't think of anywhere better this time with decent prices)
Pool is too small/crowded to swim

I know some just want a bed for 4 hours, but I'm interested in hidden gems that others have that would be a good alternative and why you like staying there.

Hi Guys

Still a Vegas Virgin however I've just got the green light to make the trip this year.

Definitely something Im looking forward to it but needs a good amount of planning.

Ill be looking to fly in on June 12/13th and will be playing  mainly a WSOP NL schedule culminating with the main event (likely to be playing Day 1B on June the 6th )

To all intent and purposes I guess you could call this a working holiday so although I like the odd drink I'm no party animal and would prefer a quiet hotel with a gym and swimming pool ideally not too far away from the poker action .

I've read through most of this thread and like Simons Vdra Hotel suggestion but was wondering for 3/4 weeks has anybody got any alternatives or indication of prices if you were to block book etc.

Any Accommodation Advice or just general tips would be appreciated.

Cheers & Thanks in Advance

Fraser

palms place mate, vdara really expensive this year. i can send you some slightly cheaper prices if you want.

Just had a quick look on Main Event, and Low Cost USA, and you can get 28 days at Palms Place for ~£2100 with LCUSA (exc resort fee), or £2400 for 30 days with MET (unsure about resort fee)

If you're looking to put in most of your volume at the Rio, this would be ideal. As it has it's own fitness centre & spa etc.

Ebookers had Vdara for £102 per day, which comes out at £3.4k for 28 days, when you add in the resort fees.

Given that your dates encompass the 3 days of EDC, that's not a bad deal, as even bad hotels are very expensive that weekend.

If you're wanting to be on the strip for the that long, I'd suggest doing what I used to do when I was more mobile, and stay in 2-3 hotels, dependent on length of trip.

Ben-ja-min.

So pleased you have won your VLV thing.

I leave the answers to others on here who are far better versed than me in these matters, but you are a special case - in so many ways..... - so I'm going to chip in.

The Thomas Cook Vegas flight is, from very reliable sources, excellent. The aircraft are not so swish & modern as BA or Virgin, but the prices are generally much lower. Punctuality seems good, too.

They also have the - to me - priceless advatage of landing in Las Vegas 2 hours earlier than the Virgin flight, & 4 hours earlier than the BA flight. That means you can Late-Reg for that day's Tourney of choice, if you wish, & it almost feels like a bonus additional day.

The delay in publishing the various schedules is a bit of a nuisance, agreed. I check this thread daily......

Or even better, this spready.....

You going solo, or taking Dad?

Was great to see you at UKPC, & well done on the win.
