I'd like to offer up another bet for this weekend's UFC 160 card.
The bet is for Donald Cerrone to win on points/by decision @ 15/8 with Paddy Power. A lot of my UFC bets are based on how I feel the fight will play out with some stats to support and this one is no different. I think it'll be a striking battle with Cerrone's technical strikes outscoring KJ Noons' power strikes. Cerrone lands at 47% with Noons at 34%.
Cerrone has 13 career submission wins (of 19) but has shown a recent tendency to favour striking battles which he can win without necessarily having enough finishing power (only two career wins via strikes. Plus, he would find it hard to get Noons to the ground as he has shown solid takedown defence (73%) throughout his 7 fight Strikeforce spell.
Noons has lost 4 of his last 5, all by decision.
This is my NB to the previous NAP and I advise £20 on Cerrone to win by decision at 15/8.
CONFIRMATION.
£5 @ 15/8, Paddy Power, Cerrone to win by decision.

Also in Greyhound Derby news, all of Barrie Draper's dogs (Ballymac Eske, Farloe Warhawk, Farloe Barracuda, Eden Star, plus others) have all been, cleverly, switched to the same owners so that they can be guarded against each other until the final. This is good news for our Warhawk and Barracuda bets.
I can understand the reasoning, but surely, as a Greyhound Owner, nothing is as important as being the Official Owner of a Derby winner?
Do they revert to correct ownership once they reach the Final, when seeding problems have disappeared?

Thanks Scott, I love the way you research your bets.
We are on, but........we got MAXED at £5 by Paddy Power. But it is better than nothing.
Details later, am otherwise engaged this evening.

Most of my "research" is just watching a sport I really enjoy which is still not quite mainstream yet.
We are so lucky to have several guys who specialise in "non-mainstream" stuff.
You look like you really enjoy writing about MMA, too, which is bound to make it read better, enthusiasm is great to see.

Surely, the name in the Programme under "Owner" is the one that goes in the record books? We can own an animal covertly, or by proxy, but we want the official recognition, surely?

Whilst I'm at it, big trial session on Wednesday past for the Derby.
Farloe Barracuda had the fastest sectional (4.75) of all the dogs trialling but faded badly and was headed without breaking 29secs. He may improve for these trials but will those kind of times might only see him through the opening couple of rounds with that early. Fingers crossed he improves.
Farloe Warhawk impressed, breaking well and running 28:56s. I have topped my bet up as still 33/1 in places. Jaytee Hellcat continues to show excellent consistency, running well in 28:65s - we have 100/1, generally 40/1 with SkyBet 66s.
Skate On didn't trial but is 66/1 general (with one 80s), we have 150/1.
Bridge Honcho ran poorly in a race at Coventry and is widely available at 100/1 - but he is entered into the Derby.
Nothing to see with Loughteen Blanco. No trial, no change.
On a personal note, although someone may have followed in, I backed Holdem Spy a while back and mentioned it briefly in this thread but then he picked up an injury which I thought had ruled him out. However he ran a trial on Wednesday and is entered, solid time of 28:68s.
Good stuff Scott, we are in decent shape for a good sweat.
Will you attend the Final & later rounds?

Play started today in the new abbreviated 50-hole Pure-Silk-Pyjamas LPGA championship but unfortunately play was suspended after a couple of hour's play, and continued to be suspended for a few more hours.
I am delighted to report that play has recently resumed but when I checked the scoreboard there was no sign of a starting-time for Jiyai Shin.
This time she really is Ms.Shin in action.
I hope she didn't come under starter's orders.
She seems to have disappeared completely from all lists of Players. We can only assume she withdrew. Presumably, unless she actually started, we get our money back?
The thing, due to no fault of the Organisers, has become something of a farce, & in a way, maybe it was best she did not play.
We think we have at least 12 holes that are playable and in this way we are putting on a golf tournament [without a cut] and playing enough holes for the money to count as being official. We think this is the best solution, and it still delivers a great event for our sponsors and fans.”
The course is being re-routed Friday around unplayable holes. The first round will start at No. 10 with players taking detours to 6-7-4-5-11-12-13-14-2-3 and 8. Some of the pars and yardages may be adjusted. Play will begin at 7:15 a.m. and run through 3:35 p.m.
Almost 12 inches of rain fell late Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night. The ninth hole and Nos. 15-18 remain
the most unplayable
, with course maintenance trying to pump water off those holes.
Note "
the most unplayable
". Tal will enjoy that.

Good grief, you can't make it up, can you?
Anyway, we are in the Final, so we got max sweat value.

Sounds like they
are
making it up, actually. All you need is some involvement and a friendly bookie and you can write the story yourself.

Most unplayable
indeed...
Some particularly stupid things coming out of golf these past few days. Now they can't even write a few sentences without there being a hole in one.

Thanks guys.
So, we can get 4/5 about what is likely to be 4/6 or worse, all things being equal.
And/or 5/1 about a horse rated 3lbs higher in a dirty ew race which may cut up badly.
Is this a clear either/or?
Excuse the ice-creamery, but we can only back one or the other, or is there a case for backing both?
I am beginning to regret reading the article I did this morning....
Leave St Nic, I think.
Why, & why?
I think the debate, the pros & cons, rather interesting, & for me, educational.
Just trying to rationalise it all.
I'm not criticising the debate, just it has left me feeling a bit confused. I thought it was a 1/2 shot I suppose and couldn't find a single commentator who had anything to oppose it
Then Doobs finds one straight away :-)
I don't think the bet is bad, I think it is more likely to be shorter than longer. I think the race is quite likely to cut up, just think that is more likely to favour my bet than yours. I think we could probably do both and hope for a 4 runner race!
St Nicholas Abbey now best 4/6. Rich was correct, still think we could probably have done both.
Looking at the back side on Betfair and the last prices laid then the race does seem destined to have a small field. Of the short priced horses, Dandino looks like a non starter, and there must be doubts on Imperial Monarch and Joshua Tree. So the race could easily end up as SNA, Dunaden, Main Sequence, Very Nice Name and a couple of big rags.
Rain at Epsom today, so increasing the chance Dunaden runs. Bet365 and Boylesports still offering 5/1 and fifth the odds first 3. Would love to punish Boylesports, but they won't lay me a cent.
Damn, I fell between two stools here.
I was wondering if we could, or should, back both, too.
I'll see if I can get something meaningful on Dunedin with Bet365 or Boyle.
Too late to back Rich's one now, we well & truly missed the tide.
