Yo, ready to make a contribution to this thread and it's one from the left field cos I didn't want to put up one of my sports bets. My better half is a big big fan of reality talent shows and the deal is I play poker while she watches whatever the latest talent show is. Safe to say I have watched a lot of auditions and know the formula for success in these. So sure, in my spare time I am Simon Cowell.
The current show of interest is BBC's The Voice. The secret to winning a singing contest in 2012 is freshness, creativity, and originality. A lot of contestants turn up and sing a good karaoke version of a song but that simply isn't enough these days. Many singers have a good voice but very few have that x factor if you'll pardon the pun. But there is a dude I watched on The Voice called Vince Kidd who rocked up and blew Madonna's Like a Virgin out the box. Literally the best first audition I have ever witnessed based on the above criteria for stardom. Every judge turned around because every judge wanted him on their team. I've been waiting for the first round to end so I could assess all the contestants and the market. I am literally amazed to find the price quoted is a huge 16/1 with Betfred and Totesport (compared with 9/1 on paddypower).
The overwhelming favourite for the show is Jazz Ellington at 9/2. Ellington obv has a beautiful voice but his image isn't anywhere near as strong as Kidd's and his performance didn't smack of creativity. Also the dude is black and unfortunately when it gets to round 3 and the public start voting minority groups don't generally fare so well. I mean Jessica Sanchez was voted bottom singer in American Idol last week causing outrage even though she is head and shoulders the best talent. There are exceptions but generally white males fare best in public voting. Vince Kidd is going to be mentored by Jessie J who will be the most popular judge and they will make for a formidable team. I also know he is well represented on social networking sites which is important for votes.
Round 2 is where the mentor chooses two of their singers to battle it out and then picks a favourite to go through. When you consider out of her 10 strong team Jessie J only gave two standing ovations and one was for Vince Kidd it's very unlikely she will vote him out in the next round. Thus by tomorrow night his price will be shorter and we will have valuuuueeeeee. I have lumped on this crazy bet today and if it doesn't win I hope to bring as many Blondes down with me as possible. A decent sweat for sure thou.
Missed the Betfred price, & Bodog is SO much hassle, but decided to risk the wrath of the Elders & have a £10 Banzai on this utterly ridiculous suggestion. The mocking rights will be awesome. How long is our capital tied up for - until tomorrow, Sunday? Any longer & I might throw one of my hissy fits.
ON
£10, Vince Kidd @ 12/1, Betfred, to win some silly TV thing that only Mantis & CH10MPY watch. I cannot BELIEVE you have got me wagering my pension on this sort of tosh, I mean, really.
The Voice 2012
The Voice 2012 Outright
Vince Kidd 12/1
Total stake £ 10.00
Estimated return £ 130.00
Full stake £ 10.00
Full estimated return £ 130.00

If you like the obscure ones Tony lets try this.
Aussie Rules this Saturday.
£90 Port Adelaide + 41 1/2 points v Collingwood( it is 5/6 which I wouldn't normally take but the line will be mid 30's soon) with either Stan, or Hills
As big fav's Collingwood are taking no chances with two of their best players and both will miss the game.
Thats a good shout I was coming on to suggest that. Collingwood will win but Port should beat the line.
Another one I like is Fremantle +18.5 at 5/6 against St Kilda with SkyBet. I'm fairly sure this was priced up on the assumption that Freo's best player Nat Fyfe would miss through injury but he has been named to start.
Freo are a better team than St Kilda imo but their record in Melbourne and Etihad Stadium in particular is awful however their new coach is Ross Lyon the former Saints coach who knows their game inside out.
Even when St Kilda were good a couple of years back they were never known for blowing teams out, they will probably shade this but I fancy Freo to beat the line.
First bounce is tomorrow at 10.50.
I LOVE TEACAKE, thank you!
Top stuff.

our german bets on the f1 are looking good!
as many of you know qualifying leaves unlimited use of drs. Mercedes have a better drs than everyother car. (something redbull tried repeatedly to get banned....) this means a 5-7kmh advantage on the straights. in f1 terms this is a country mile. (if i remember rightly the only cars to come close are the saubers, they wont handle the bahrain heat to well)
Having followed the live timing of both practice sessions im optimistic. OBVIOUSLY the actual times achieved are pretty irrelevant. Practice is about finding a bassline to build the car.
The advantage Mercedes have for this race, from today, is the sheer number of laps they put in. 106 laps. nearly two race distances.
As far as Mercedes moving backwards in the race...
Bahrain is in a desert. Lots of sand on the track. This means the racing line to begin with will rubber tyres, making 'marbles' off the racing line. Along with the sand off the racing line aswell. Twin this with the fact, you have the fastest car along with two drivers with exceptional race craft they shouldnt be too easy to get past. Plus the start of the race wont cause the calamities of Malaysia, china and even australia.
Long straight... chicane... long straight...
Plus schumacher has always been one of the great starters.
Maybe this is why the front rows at the start never change too much from the results.
Granted button is of course great with tyre wear. But schumacher has a similar smooth style and the only reason rosberg won in china was from managing his tyres extremely well.
Head of Mercedes motorsport norbert the gerry said The second session had more grip which helped.... Plus... practice tomorrow and support from the porsches...
The track should green in nicely by the race.
pains me to be backing schumacher... i remember the days he was unstoppable... and smug.... and german... fact is the player got game son!

Parker - what have you started, half of the F1 fanbase is here now?!
A very enjoyable diversion though, & I
speshly
liked Skippy's Guide to F1 2012. My eyes bleed when I read some stuff, but "powerful, so goes faster" & "but goes round corners quicker" I can handle.
I heard Nico was quickest in 2nd practice, but I guess that's meanngless really. What time UK is proper Qualifying?

Apologies Parker, my prev Post & yours crossed - excellent summary, thank you.
You have changed the Betting Board terminology, too - "green out" was previously used, now you have introduced "green in".

14/1 widely available. Betting 12/1 when 14/1 is widely available is criminal!

It was also a mistake - Oddschecker, which I now use to check every bet - was not displaying across the board odds for me at the time.

no worries haha
yeh rosberg being quickest means nothing but an ego boost for himself and a show off to the other teams. Interestingly schumi in his own words was something along the lines of "ze traffic got in ze way so i couldnt do ze flying lapz"
in translation his 5th isnt a comparison to rosberg due to 100s of million pounds worth of 'clutter'
still i guess its nice to see them going fast

Definitely not meaningless that Rosberg fastest in this Q session. He is 2/1 now off the back of it. We have the value.
