How did you suss that one out?
I heard it a few weeks ago and forgot completely about it till today and then did a bit of research and BINGO!

It feels like there should be some correlation. You achieved the pinnacle, manager unexpectedly stays and then you take the foot off the gas. But then you look at Wigan and construct a v similar argument. Dunnno, but think it is better to comment on this rather than the bets already placed. Tikay can get tetchy.

Most of the bets placed so far seem more like hopeful punts rather than value spots

Got to admire a bet where one of the corroborating statistics goes back 32 years.
Even though there should be no correlation whatsover

Forest do tend to start very slowly in the League. Maybe a lay of Nottingham Forest vs Bristol City 1.95 on betfair is worth a small punt?

How did I know that mention of Forest would have you here in 30 seconds flat, Simon?!
Can't really do that bet, it requires a tad more logic I'm afraid. I don't back anything that moves, you know.

I know we won on first day of 1977/78 and won league
but unless my memories really bad (possible!) we have drawn or lost opening league game for last 7/8 seasons. I might have it has my crowning bet in the buying sh!t thread

Statistical discussion about opening games of the season reminded me of a stat I checked last season about Wimbledon. Before last season's opening game we had not lost an opening game since 1996/7, when we lost 3-0 at home to ManUre, the game in which Beckham scored THAT goal.
Unfortunately, we lost last season's opener, but still, 1997-2010 inclusive is a pretty long time! 14 seasons unbeaten :-)

Forest side has been put together very last minute, they had about 5 players a few weeks ago. So they may well take time to gel, I would expect them to start slowly again this year and improve.

I am at Ayr today and looking forward to it. I haven't actually been on track for a while. I placed 3 bets last nigh, and one I am definitely dining out on value on runs in the opener.
ALWILDA ran a fairly decent race at Kempton last week finishing 4th on debut. In doing so it separated a pair of Godolphin horses and finished ahead of a short priced fav. Sir Mark's horses often get better with experience and I see no reason why it won't win today. The trainers record up at Ayr is also worth noting.
With these races, its sometimes difficult to know just where we are on the form lines as there isn't a lot to go on, and the newcomers could be anything. When I initially looked at the race and priced it up I wen't 8/13 ALWILDA and the main danger for me was AL THUMAMA if there was any market support but that one is as big as 18/1 in a place.
My selection can still be backed at 5/6 with Padraig Power. I would still be happy to back this at 8/13.
We have our first, & hopefully last loser of the day, unforch.
1st 3 Asgardella (IRE) 9/2
2nd 5 Reggae Star 14/1
ALWILDA started at 8/13, so that's tonight's Value Pie sorted for dinner.
