Rylan \r(y)-lan\ as a boy's name is a variant of Ryland (Old English), and the meaning of Rylan is "land where rye is grown".

In better Bookie news, I just wanted to confirm that bookiebasher, aka Lucky Jim, aka Jamie Moult, happily gave me an envelope with £150 in it on Friday, to settle the Darts Bet.

Well when I say happily, he spat on it, & threw it on the floor, but I ain't proud.

Thanks Jim.

Prepare for bloodied head bandages, all in the cause of Tyke survival....

I'm fully expecting him to turn it down, so given that he's 1/5, 1/4 and 2/5 on the three books at present, makes everyone else value at the moment.

I've just made some small covering bets at big prices on some of the other suspects who I think are in the frame, as they're all value now including Redfearn at 12/1 and Flitcroft at 20/1.  If one of them gets the job I make something, if Butcher gets the job I'm surprised and happy as a fan and don't mind the betting losses.

The nut low for me is Blackwell, as I'm refusing on principle to think that they're even considering appointing him.  If he gets the job I lose money and potentially send the season ticket back (for anyone wondering why, he was Sheff Utd's manager when Chris Morgan fractured Iain Hume's skull with his elbow a few years ago and denied that there was any wrongdoing).

We can get thread into beard accounts now! Lovely. This thread really needs to find a solution to being completely public. I'm sure it must have drawn attention at least once and it'd be a real shame to have a huge group of accounts closed.

A rumour went out on twitter the other day, that a man had been denied xK£ on over 21.5 180s at 10/11 he was limited to £30 he then asked for £xK on the unders but they limited him to £30 as well! How I wish it was true.

Our DoI bet is not looking good, we are on Samia Ghadie @ 15/2, now freely available at 16/1 & above.

There is no such thing as bad publicity............unfortunately for us, probably not true in Samia's case, with other halves being dumped, as her heart is melted by Mr. skating partner.

Thought she skated OK last night.....definite potential as spotted ringside by Phil  Smiley

Early days...hopefully Corrie fans will vote in their droves.

oh no, I was too busy watching NFL and golfers trying to play in a gale so missed the opening night. It doesn't look like a very good start tho.

Didn't one of the dancers we bet end up in the skate off in the first week one year?

She's supposedly been doing some horizontal dancing with the bloke she skates with and they coincidentally have both split their respective partners since 'working' together on the show.

She claims that she's single, nothing going on, but that may not have done her any favours with the public Cheesy

I'm afraid Fred can no longer bet with Stan James, as they closed my account yesterday.

Fred was actually a net loser with them, to the tune of £285, but I'd done OK with them on my own off-thread betting. I only had one "big" win, Graham McDowell in the World Golf Challenge (+£840), all the rest of my bets were for £50 @ 9/10 on obscure Over-Under markets, but the majority of them were winners, as they often get their lines badly wrong.

So that is that, no more Stan James for us, though it should not affect Fred too much. However, if you see a "Best Price" at Stan James, you should still post the bet, as others can still get on, & I'll just take the next best price with another bookie if it happens.

Fred also has these issues.....

Bet365 - Severely Restricted.

Blue Square - Frequently Restricted, but can usually get on for small amounts.

Sky Bet - not appropriate for me to bet with them.

These days most firms would rather be paying peanuts to young lads to follow Oddschecker than employ people that know the events or do the work. Coz the quality cost money and the PC monkeys don't. So they would prefer to do it cheap and then just shut anyone that shows some ability, it doesn't even matter if you are winning or not, just that you know more than the 20 year old 12k a year oddschecker tracer and will take on good spots most of the time.

haha horizontal dancing! They could have at least done it standing up and worked on thru a few dance moves at the same time. The partner splitting is deffo not going to go in their favour either.

How can you call yourself a bookmaker and then ban people from betting with you because you keep cocking up?

You're either doing a good job and should therefore encourage winners to come back and gamble so they give it all back (à la a casino) or you are doing a rubbish job and should therefore try harder.

What other walk of life would that happen in?

I'm a little sad, but only for selfish reasons, & I'm certainly not going to make a hoohah about it. It is my (painful) experience that when folks get banned by a Poker Site, Poker Forum or Bookie, they get a bit uppity, but that makes no sense at all to me, as personally why would I want to do business, or interact with, any organisation or Company that does not welcome my involvement or custom?

Bookmakers are accountant driven, quite right too, as they are using Shareholders money, so I can perfectly understand the logic. Dislking it does not make it wrong.

I was told a tale by a mate last night of a chap who can get £30,000 on with Ladbrokes for ANY bet he wants. How so? He is a Premier League footballer, & probably drops a 6 figure sum per annum. If Laddies were your company, if you managed them, or you were a Shareholder of theirs, you'd agree with them managing & culling their Client-Base the most optimal way, surely?

I've never understood how bookies should be allowed to get away with this, and I certainly wouldn't try to defend them for doing it.  Similarly for casinos who treat being talented at blackjack as cheating.

If I was a shareholder of a big retail chain, I wouldn't want to ban those customers who only shop with them in the January sales or who are particularly adept at spotting a bargain, and there'd be an outcry if anyone tried to do this.  This is no different to what the bookies do with shrewd punters, so why condone it?

At the end of the day, they're the one's who set the prices for people to bet.

I'm afraid we will never agree on that.

Customers have rhe right to choose with whom they do business, & I do not see why any Business should not have the same right. Life is a two way street. Why should it be a one-way street, where the Client can do what he wants, & the Business can't? The policy may be mistaken, but that is not the point. It is their money, & business, & they should be able to do as they wish.

The only part I agree with is they if they offer ool prices, well they should adjust the prices, or they will get beaten up by the punters. Better to correct the prices than ban those who take advantage, but that is their absolute right, & I'm pretty sure their major shareholders would approve. It is, after all, their money that they invest in the Company, & they have a right to expect the Business to use it wisely.

We could debate this forever, & I'm happy so to do, but probably best to start a seperate thread if you wish to, as it may go from debate to argument, & get a bit "hot", & I'm keen to keep the pleasing & relaxing ambience here!

I think it's been done to death on here before, and nothing's going to change.  Was more an observation than anything else, and not really intended to generate a massive debate.

I do like Pinnacle's approach on this though.  They advertised that they welcome 'shrewd money' as it challenges them to sharpen their lines.  Reality might be different (i.e. there's probably a ton of 'my account was closed by Pinny' claims on the web) but it's nice to believe that this ideal exists.

Feel free to move my posts elsewhere though if you like.  No problems with that.

No Pinnacle don't shut winning accounts or restrict them and neither does the firm I work for or a number of others.  It is perfectly possible to win money doing so.  British bookies try to maximise margin which is understandable.  Others try to maximise profit.  I think the difference is that the British firms have largely given up trying to make a book and now really concentrate on trying to gamble against bad gamblers.  Kinda like good game selecting poker players they would rather play £1-2 every day unless there are huge fish in the big game in which case they will play £100-200.  Pinnacle will play £100-200 every day because they are good at the game!

i get a bit frustrated at times by firms who wont lay a penny

i dont waste to much energy on it at the end of the day if you want to play with the firms that do this then play them at there own game (friends accounts e.t.c)

if you dont then fair enough
