Well, they have £40m to spend first.

Andros Townsend and Adebayor have been strongly linked with moves (the latter is an issue over how much of his wages spurs pay). If Llorente and Moses come, I expect both of those deals to happen.

Villa have just brought in a Sporting Director from arsenal, which I assume is to oversee and sort out transfers.

If they improve the squad properly, 4/1 isn't much fun, is it?

That said, they're unlikely to be top half this season, so there's likely to be a sweat for a while.

GL losing those 5 players and keeping the squad the same talent wise with £40m never mind improving it.  Spurs bought worse than those with nearly £100m from Bale.

The 2015 Open Golf Championship at the half way point

The early starters for Thursday’s first round had still and dry conditions, likely to be the best for the four days at St Andrews. Big hitters and good putters made hay and scores of 65-67 were common.

Dustin Johnson became the first player since Gary Player in 1974 to be first round leader of US and British Opens in the same year, after never leading after 18 holes in a major before this year.Well fancied players like Spieth, Day and Oosthuizen were also out early and populated the first round leader-board.

By the afternoon the wind began to appear and low scores were less common. Only the consistent Zach Johnson challenged the top of the leader-board on day one from the afternoon starters.

By Friday morning and the start of the second round, conditions were substantially different. Heavy rain delayed play by four hours and the early starters again had the advantage, in part because the late starters have to complete their round early on Saturday morning

Dustin Johnson is leader at the half way point at -10

Danny Willett, 27 from Sheffield, went round in 69 on Friday to be -9 going into the Weekend. Willett finished third at the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship, earning special temporary membership on the PGA Tour for the remainder of the 2015 season. He is the number two European PGA ranked golfer behind McIlroy this season, but with little major championship experience.

Willett is trying to become the 1st Englishman to win The Open since Nick Faldo in 1992

Marc Warren, 34 years old from Glasgow, went round in 69 to add to Thursday’s 68 to end at -7 after two rounds, alongside Zach Johnson and Adam Scott, who shot 67 to move into contention.

Weather conditions for Saturday’s third round are expected to be very rough, with up to 40mph winds. Scores of below par are going to be very rare.

The leader-board going into Saturday’s play is

D Johnson -10
Willetts -9
Lawrie -8
Day -8
Warren -7
Z Johnson -7
Scott -7
Oosthuizen -7
Streb -7

Outright prices are

(number of holes in the second round left to play as i write are in bold)

Dustin Johnson 9/4 (Sportingbet) FIVE
Adam Scott 17/2 (Coral)
Jason Day 10/1 (Coral) SEVEN
Jordan Spieth 12/1 (888Sport)
Danny Willett 12/1 (generally)
Luis Oosthuizen 16/1 (Bet365) SEVEN
Zach Johnson 25/1 (Skybet)
Justin Rose 28/1 (Betfred)

Rough conditions that can change quickly introduce big potential unknowns into betting for the weekend. On the one hand high winds might be expected to favour the more experienced players, but if they happen to get the worst of the conditions it won’t matter. The chances of an unexpected name winning are probably higher than in benign weather.

We have 7 golfers in our book in the top 25 and 5 in the top 10

The Championship is wide open

We only have two losers to take so far, Lehman -£5 top 20 and Snedeker -£10. Both missed the cut

If you don't mind indulging me your tightness, Willett started around 1.15pm on Thursday, in the group behind the consistent Zach Johnson.

Last impression I got was this was a done deal after Ironside said they were miles clear.

What/when did it all go wrong?
