To be fair he is right about the Orange march.  I honestly never thought that they No campaign would be able to top having mssrs Cameron, Milliband and Clegg jet up for a day in terms of own goals but nothing quite says "we are stuck in the past and are going to celebrate having colonised you and rub it in your face for another 300 years" as well as a bunch of Orangemen marching through your city centre.

I have seen bias on both sides of the argument tbh, but I know who the 'Yes' people will blame if they don't win, and it won't be because their campaign wasn't strong enough to gain enough votes to win, you know that as well as I do mate.

I agree with this

All the "no popery" stuff (I gather the organisers insisted these banners weren't to be included in the march, but the marchers did anyway) only benefits the other side, can't imagine it turned on too many floating voters

the sectarian stuff in Scottish society which peeps through in this campaign from both sides at time to time is pretty unappealing

That's why the no campaign did not endorse it. No room for it.

Interesting article from Christopher Booker in today's Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/scottish-independence/11092522/This-is-no-dream-Scotland-is-sleepwalking-into-a-nightmare.html

The quotes from The Second Coming are particularly apposite

This is bloody hilarious. Except the clown believes it. A guy who got less than 10000 votes shouldn't get any air time at all. But more airtime he gets, more votes for No. FreeDumb indeed.

Of course there's an agenda. I doubt we've seen anything in any newspaper that wasn't slanted for one side or the other.

But the headline was a direct quote from a well regarded former head of the British Army. It's an emotional appeal and no less valid than the Yes campaign calling for support based on some vague notion that self-determination and the pride and spirit of the Scottish nation will create a land of milk and honey.

Did you read the Booker piece by the way?
Or the piece in yesterday's Telegraph by William Dalrymple?

No I didn't read it, or anything in the Telegraph. I am afraid I take a very sceptical view when I see someone telling us we will fall into chaos in an independent Scotland. In the same way as I don't believe we will be living in some form of Nirvana that some on the yes side would like us to believe.

I have done my best to look at the issues we face and to try to look at as impartial evidence as possible which I know is difficult.

Did just click into it and skimmed over it, first thing I see is that we would need reserves of at least £100bn. We covered this a few days ago and with the banks registering in England that is a massively inflated number. So think I won't waste any more time.

A question for kmac, I am almost certainly voting yes, I'm a rangers supporter ( not a bigot, reliigious  what so ever) do you see some  left wing future for Scotland , because the way you are portraying this referendum it has some deeper rooted issues for you ?

That would be my hope but the SNP aren't going to deliver a socialist utopia.   I would settle for the people of Scotland getting the government the majority of us vote for, one which has the Scottish people at its heart and one that makes decisions based on the needs of the many and not the wants of a few.

I don'tsee why you brought what team you support into the thread though.  Its not about football, religion or any of the other baggage Scotland already has to carry.  Its about creating a prosperous future for all the people who live in our country and call it home, that even includes the naysayers!  The ones that want to stay that is and don't want me sending the removal van on Friday :-)
