If Arsenal were able to sign Lewandowski in January do you think they would win the league and would the fans would be happy with Wenger?
they'd be 25-30 goals a season less giroud's goals closer
(then add a commanding centre back, a world class defensive midfielder)
i think a lot of fans would be happier
with Wenger if the cash mountain was £50m not £200m and he wasn't so flipping stubborn
that may or may not be logical but many fans don't want to be stuck in 4th-5th, last 16 CL and with a glass ceiling on progress yet with £200m in the bank!
Do you really think armchair football fans, armed with their vast knowledge of managing football clubs, & equipped with a monster-sized rear view mirror, would EVER be happy with team selection, transfer policy & hows yer father of the team they support?
well I am with mine. sample size of 1.
Ha, fair point.
But you are the sort of fan who would stay until the final whistle if Leicester were 6-0 down at home. At many clubs, (especially in the North East?), they'd all go home at half time.

You can't run (successful) football clubs via a Fans Committee.
60000 fans last at least deserve some sort of explanation.

Fergie had the most money, then Chelsea had the most money, then City had the most money. Wenger never did have the most money and still made Arsenal title winners, cup winners Champs league finalists etc
Don't know where I'd rank him as a manager versus others but I don't think hes underachieved

For their £100 or whatever, they get to see a 90 minute football match, not the keys to the Personnel Department.

Tighty alludes to it. Fast forward five years. Wenger retires, AN Other Manager comes in. He is left with a legacy he cannot live with. He brings in players to please the fans but they don't have the long-held understanding of the arsenal way and the manager can't teach them either. The team struggles early and the press have a field day. The manager is unfairly compared to his predecessor and missing Champions League football two seasons in a row leads to the fans united in his termination.

i gather you turn up there, especially on european nights, to be surrounded by corporates, no atmosphere to watch a team where the manager leaves his world class goalkeeper out of the team (having played him at Leicester), this being the only player signed in the summer and having lost in Zagreb in the opening game of the group when he didn't play either. you've got two games against bayern to come and are right under it unless you win this game
and no reason is given for said player being left out?
very very odd

Maybe they have a succession plan, & have their man lined up already, confidentially. If he's the best thing since sliced bread, they are hardly gonna tell the world, are they, in case someone else nips in. They may, for all we know, have signed a pre-nuptial with Mr Klopp.

Arsenal fans won't be happy unless Arsenal with the EPL & CL. Every year. It's the nature of fans, is it not? Just because they don't do either, does not make the Club or the Manager a failure.

Wenger usually plays his 2nd keeper in cup games right? It's not like Ospina is a total liability lol. He happened to have a bad game, but i can understand showing faith in your players and keeping up squad morale is surely also a very important aspect of managing a team.

thats not true, its about expectations and is for any club
Arsenal's current line over the last 5-10 seasons (and really since his great team broke up) is finish 4th and CL last 16
for their fans to be happy, i would suggest....for some it would be continue this, for others it would be 3rd in the premier league, for others get the champions league quarter finals
no one expects arsenal to win the champions league. hardly any expect to beat man c to the premier league
to stay where they are, or even go backwards, with £200m in the bank, is the problem.
you don't need that amount of resources in reserve to be conservative and prudent

play ospina at leicester, home to west brom, at bournemouth if its important to keep him happy
Cech has to play in the champions league, surely?
(one mistake aside, the problems last night were not confined to Ospina, which i think has been said several times)

They do "challenge" for both, don't they? How many consecutive years have they been in the CL - 15 is it? And to be in the CL you need to be top 4 in the EPL.
That's relative, of course, but compared to around 14 of the EPL teams, only a handful challenge for either. And that includes Arsenal.
Guess there will never be a meeting of minds here. Interesting debate, all the same.

Unfortunately, it really doesn't matter what fans think.
Prices are as elastic as you like, demand outstrips supply, TV deals go huger and huger - it really makes no difference to the owners if Arse finish 1st or 4th or if they progress in the champs league or not (well a slight cash difference there) but their investment is doing pretty well anyway.
This of course is why top level football is shite these days and I wish I'd been raised to be a QPR fan or summat
