Me and my good lady were planning a weekend away and York are having an evening meeting followed by the Kaiser Chiefs tomorrow.

Im sure it will be a busy night and just wondering if any blondes have been to one of these and apart from the racing any views on what kind of set up they have for bands.

Any tips and fancies also appreciated.

Cheers

Need to be in County, Grandstand or Paddock for best view of the stage, view and sound will be ok but a little limited from the cheap side. It's usually a very busy weekend but Friday will be heaving with the Kaiser Chiefs being a relatively local band and quite a draw for the casual music fan.

If you're wanting transport back to the city centre afterwards you're gonna be much better off booking it well in advance as the queue for taxis will take forever (unless you leave a little early). Think KC are due to play until 10.30....enjoy! And just yell if you want any other York based pointers.

I'll be on the cheap side, and also interested in any tips anyone might have Smiley

Stay in the Grand hotel round the corner from the station (nap).  Pricey but worth every penny.

Pricey?! It's expensive enough on a normal night so can't begin to imagine how much they'll charge for the weekend of York races!

It is a very nice gaff though if you don't have any affinity with money, very well located too.

Thanks guys but looking likely to go for just Friday and drive home after the gig as the accommodation is pretty booked up and whats left is extortionate.

The idea only arose cos Im driving down from Edinburgh tomorrow and my good lady was going to train up and meet.

York's just too busy to try and arrange last minute accommodation without paying a very hefty premium.

Cheers

Yeah had a mate looking at a late decision to travel up and stay Friday night, but wasn't much left, and what was left was very expensive for what it is IE Travelodge for £200 for a single night etc.

We can't get champagne on the cheap side Arb Wink

Penthouse at Grand still available on Friday for £500.  Much better value than a travelodge for a bottle!  Master suite available on Saturday for £463.  Decent value for the weekend! Cheesy

Whozthecat 25-1 in the 6.30. Hardly in form but against some similar old dodgepots. However well in on some old form.

Hit the heights 8.00 pissed up in this last year and judging by its prep so far this season and the fact the 14s from earlier long gone would suggest he will be trying again tomorrow.

Good luck.

Nb. I couldn't tip a chair on here this year, so buyer beware.

York 7:00 Used to Be @ 6/1 (366)

I follow Karl Burke's string, and here he's placed one against a very short-priced unraced Fav from Hugo Palmer. The selection showed considerable improvement on its debut when finishing strongly for 2nd at Donny. Dougie Costello is the usual stable jock, and this one should be backed esp if it shortens in price. Atm it's an E/W price, but I'd be happy to back it win only.
