The trainer imparted to me that Catkin should be in the frame in the next couple of outings. I have personally watched Catkin over a few hurdles down at the yard last week and it went well. My money is on but then I support the trainer as he is also my next door neighbour.

You pay your money and takes your choice. Not a cert.

Thats enough for me Mikey

3.00 Kempton - Toosey

Now I know Catkin came 5th shame as a place would have been nice. The reason I mention Toosey is that the stable girl who daily rides out did give me positive feedback when I asked.

I tend to find you get a better answer than from the trainer - I am on it - but as my Mrs just said "You don't have to back all his horses"

Just got a gut feeling - this is one of his better horses.

Probably doomed it now.

This thread is the degens leading the degens - on obv.

The step up in distance should help and hopefully it's got a bit up it's sleeves for the handicap debut.

Ask Catkin

Geez it was nut-numbing weather off the fens in Huntingdon today. Loads of roadworks along the way, but a fabulously generous pork roast was scoffed by me ‘n’ Ernie (my driver & fellow punter, who only scratched the surface of his catalogue of celebrity tales as we made our way north). Can’t wait for more tales from the golf course.

I only mention the weather, since being a bit of a soft southerner, I didn’t spend much time at the parade ring. But I did go to see our fillie for a couple of minutes. She seemed very bright & alert, looking all around. Perhaps a little too excited? The groom was constantly patting Catkin on her neck, as if in an attempt to settle her. I’m no expert, so I could easily be wrong; it’s just how it looked.

In the race itself, she was travelling comfortably at the back, but only 8-10L off the lead. With about 1M to go, the jock brought her forward for an effort, but there may have been a scrappy jump which dented her momentum. At this point the leading contenders broke away and she looked done - as if the extra distance was beyond her. However she then stayed on to be 5th, clear of the rest.

Not sure if any of this is of interest, but since I was there...

Meanwhile, come on Toosey!

Definitely interested in the roast!

All the trimmings, and fresh apple sauce?

All the trimmings, and fresh apple sauce?

Only went for the roast as I'm no fan of Mac 'n' Cheese; 2 massive slices of freshly cooked pork, choice of chips or roasties (both a little dry, but no biggie), a few scraps of mixed veg, but as much gravy and apple sauce as you like. And the crackling was both plentiful and perfectly crunchy. Chef knows what he's doing.

I got us a £28 Jockey Club package each: entry; racecard; pork roast + beer/wine/soft drink. Fantastic value. Ernie did the driving & stories.

Can't stand that either, and impossible to go wrong with roasts & racing!

Glad you had a good day out.
