When you read the article, it says the coalition government significantly increased spending on this scheme in last 5 years and are now looking at capping the cost of the scheme.

I presume you applaud the increased spending over the last 5 years under a Tory dominated coalition on the scheme?

Surprisingly you can't always believe ever word you read in a newspaper and how they headline it.

You come across as particularly bitter about the election result. Even Ed Balls was dignified in defeat.

Of course I'm bitter.

There has emerged a significant section of England which has never been seen before: the right wing poor.

These people are so utterly brain dead it makes me furious.

When they have to wait 6 months for a hospital appointment, have their children placed in schools they don't want them to go to and can't afford them to go to university and when public services are cut to fund tax breaks for the rich, then maybe they'll maybe they will reflect what a fuck up they've made.

Until that time we've had the most divisive governemnt since Thatcher foisted on us.

Because it was so different when Labour were last in power, or in two years time if they had got into power?

You make it sound like Cameron is a British dictator taking money off the poor to give directly to his cronies. Surely even you don't really think that?

You're living in a stereotype fantasy world sir.

20 times more money is lost to the exchequer by tax evasion than by benefits cheating.

That is a matter of fact.

Is 20 times as much spent chasing tax dodgers as it is chasing and demonising some of the weakest people in society?

But the Conservatives were much harder on tax evasion than the previous Labour government.  It wasn't even close.

Maybe tax evasion then wasn't as bad as it is now.

The Biritish people have spoken!

I´ve spent hundreds of hours on it and all I have is this:

The poor, unwell, disabled and caring community in this community took a huge hit today!

Austerity makes people c**** and c**** vote Tory.

Thanks to all for the civilised discussion on this thread, I learnt so much and it was excellent!

Another bad loser.

Surprised at you Kush! )))

It wasn´t me who lost, I can live in any country in the world, although there aren´t many better than Britain....but I'm afraid for the vulnerable elements of society. that´s really genuine, I´d hate to be poor or disabled or seriously unwell if you are, (in Britain) today was the worst day of your life

The worst day of their lives?  Worse than when their parents died, worse then when they got a serious illness, worse than when they lost their job?

And please keep the discussion civilised.

Tax evasion facts

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/statement-by-hmrc-on-tax-evasion-and-the-hsbc-suisse-data-leak

The government has strongly supported HMRC’s approach to tackling tax evasion and tax avoidance by increasing investment in HMRC’s enforcement capacity, and by strengthening HMRC’s powers.

The government has invested around £1 billion in HMRC’s compliance activities since 2010, and has made 42 changes to tax laws to crack down on tax avoidance and evasion.

....

We have also increased criminal prosecutions five-fold, and between 2010 and 2014 HMRC secured more than 2,650 criminal prosecutions and 2,718 years of prison sentences for tax crimes.

Whatever u wanna say about austerity the Tories ideologically look after the wealthiest. They always have and always will and the way they for this is by making the less well off pay for it.

Haha, I was only kidding Smiley

If I'm in good enough nick, I'm gonna try and nab a pass for the Blondebash, and that would be great.

However, my days of floating around London cardrooms are long done with, and I'm back in deepest Dorset now.

Yes, it's all got very drama queen, hasn't it?

Jaffa went to Chester on Friday and wanted some help, and he will confirm, it was a very very good day all round. But I digress.

You and camel seem to remember a time when Florence Nightingale and Mother Teresa ran the country, doing all this wonderful stuff for the poor and needy.

I don't remember that era, and you are more gullible than I thought if you believed a Labour government was going to be the dawn of that era!

It's been a great thread and the minority views of the left have been presented well. However fact is the Tories secured an outright majority victory! Sour grapes from the minority left aimed at people who voted for a majority conservative government is cringeworthy. British people have spoken. They trust the Tories to deliver on the issues that matter. Five years majority conservative government!!

Hogwash.

how many people wait six months for a hospital appointment? The NHS Constitution says "You have the legal right to start your non-emergency NHS consultant-led treatment within a maximum of 18 weeks from referral, unless you choose to wait longer or it is clinically appropriate that you wait longer."
Schools have always had limits on their capacity, and since 2010 there has been a lot of money spent on improving or replacing the buildings to help ease that and to provide better facilities.
Since when was a University Education a right? Oh, and let's not forget that it was a Labour Government that introduced loans for tuition costs.
Public services cut to provide tax breaks for the rich... Seriously?

I thought the movement in tuition fees was going to cut the number of working class who were able to go university, because of the perception of debt rather than how it's actually constructed for student loans, but the figures don't bear it out - they just keep going up.
I currently know people from poorer backgrounds and from richer backgrounds who are studying at university - because of the financial aid available the working class ones are much better off with day to day expenses.

Do you actually know any poor people Keith? Because a lot of what you say sounds very left wing middle class - and not in a good way.

I've really enjoyed this thread, the debate has been pretty spot on and I even learnt a few things. But the last few pages have shown how low the opposition will really go just because things didn't go their way. Come on show some class guys like we know you are capable of.

We had 13 years of a Labour Government and what did they achieve in terms of tackling tax evasion?

The facts above demonstrate the coalition did far more than Labour ever did but we have Camel trotting out his stereotypical nonsense.

The hypocrisy of Milliband and Balls on this stuff is staggering.

Scotland has 16% of deprived students in higher education with tuition fees at zero, and the rUK has 22% of the same students in higher education (costing £9k) per year which all goes to prove, almost nothing and the perception that lowering tuition fees is the instant solution to social mobility is flawed.

I would guess that the changes to unpaid internships will do more good but, if a child's parents are established and connected then that child's path to he professions is much easier.
