If Theresa May does not secure Brexit deal by EU summit — she should walk away … it's IDS

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6523855/iain-duncan-smith-pm-should-walk-away-brexit/

There is literally zero chance of a deal by the summit at the end of this month. So what IDS is really saying is "we don't want a deal. There is no available deal we can accept. We'll take our chances with total chaos."

The EU Brexit deal will be “really quite humiliating”, senior Tory tells the Forsyth

"I’ve heard few in Govt, Leavers or Remainers, who now disagree with this."

Verhofstadt this week told a cross-party group of British MEPs that he expects the softest of Brexits — EEA, customs union, European judges.

This of course is the exact opposite of the direction the government seems to headed

He's expected to brief Westminster MPs on this model when in London next week. More here.

There is no “Brexit dividend” to spend on the NHS.

And OBR estimated £300m a week cost to public finances.

When you hear ministers describing the imminent boost to NHS spending as a Brexit “dividend”, think 🦄. Britons will pay for it through increased taxes and the burden of higher debt

for the next five years at least, the EU divorce bill - plus government spending pledges, eg maintaining the farm subsidy budget [yellow] - mean all the money we currently send to the EU is already earmarked:

Genuinely stunned that the palpably untrue “Brexit dividend” is now on the No10 website.

I like to think that Sam Coates of the times is right and that this phrasing is to make Boris and co feel good about brexit while, the govt caves on a 101 issues in the next few weeks to the EU.

The tories are looking a bit foolish for claiming the Magic money tree didn’t exist at the last election. I wonder why it took them so long to find it?

There is still “no substantial progress” on the Irish border and member steps should “step up preparedness” for no deal, according draft European Council summit notes. Also notice how Brexit only gets 4 paragraphs — EU has bigger fish to fry.

England avoid an early exit from a group of foreign nations, but will Tory rebel MPs do the same on Weds? Game on after Lords vote
