It's like 1999 all over again...when the experts told us the world was going to explode and we all faced annihilation

Remember NYE when it ticked to 12 and we all held our breath for like one second and then just carried on partying as normal.

In fact I got pulled by the old bill with no tax, mot or insurance on NYE and never heard anything about it again. So for me the journey to a new millennium was overall positive experience.

I wasn't worried about Y2K in the slightest. I am worried about brexit.

I had my last cigarette on NYE 1999 BTW. I haven't had a fag this century.

MattHancock :

"The department is working up options with industry for stockpiling medicines, medical devices and substances of human origin in the case of a no-deal Brexit. Obviously there will be a cost for this."

Civil servants have apparently warned the government that under a ‘no deal’ Brexit, supermarkets in Cornwall and Scotland would run out of food after just a couple of days, and hospitals would run out of medicines in two weeks.

The Independent launches its campaign for a second referendum on Brexit.

(In my opinion, it would be even more divisive and repulsive than the last one, but it might be necessary to remedy it's terrible design flaws).

Goodbye yellow brick road?

Sir Elton John on Brexit: (not sure why he was interviewed about it,mind!)

“It’s like walking through Hampton Court maze blindfolded, being turned around 16 times and trying to find your way out.”

“British people were promised something that was completely ridiculous and wasn’t economically viable.”

I guess there’s not much point banning myself from the thread if the main thing it does is make more room for nonsense. If this is actually a question? The answer is no. You could read the article? They all make it clear, I checked :-).

For those more interested in reality, there was a book reviewed in the FT Weekend; it’s called ‘Crashed: How a Decade of Financial Crises Changed the World’ by Adam Tooze. It looks just the ticket for anyone looking for answers on how we ended up with Trump, Brexit, ‘Mantis wisdom’ etc. It’s quite US focussed but it takes time to dismiss the bizarre notion that government spending (in the UK) was a factor in the financial collapse.

I haven’t read it yet, I’ll report back when I have.

Have a good day!

I agree that Blair/Brown & Co didn’t cause or were a major contributor to a worldwide financial crash, I think it’s very fair to say they were badly prepared for that eventuality and that lack of preparation hindered our economy and prosperity.
