but wait the HoC clerks write

"Now the Government has made a statement that political agreement on withdrawal agreement & future framework has been reached, the requirements for the Government to make a statement to the House by 21 Jan on ‘no deal’ has been superseded."

It suggests she can refuse to ever bring this deal to the Commons, then push through no-deal with no intervention from MPs.

Not that she would want to, but an ERG successor might

off to look at the pound.......

so practically..

Theresa May on second referendum: “I believe it would lead to a significant loss of faith in our democracy. It would lead many people to question the role of this house and the role of members in this house.”

Does anyone seriously think this hasn't already happened?

If the house of commons is deadlocked/at an impasse/can't pass anything...and the legal end game is no deal...

then surely a referendum has to be coming, probably under a new prime minister?

maybe

option 1

withdrawal deal

option 2

no deal

with NO option to remain on the ballot?

As the only person on here who has ever admitted to be swayed by both sides of the coin, it is incredible how entrenched everyone here is.

Anyway. In Hungary this week and been sat with a trade minister this afternoon, plus others, who has been telling us about the disquiet here with the EU.

Plenty here would favour a renegotiation or even a full withdrawal as a country doing its best economically for over 100 years, they feel the benefits have largely gone from being a member.

It's just a matter of time......I tells ya.

Why didn't they force a vote?

Because they want no part of the disaster til it's over so will wait it out, with then the easiest election campaign in history to run.

Both sides concerned with self interest not the national interest, with the one person arguably at least trying to think of it, May (respect referendum, but can't no deal) lambasted on all sides

Funny old game

Alexa, show me a definition of "not mincing your words"

Alexa:

The Economist awards its idiot of the year to Boris Johnson: “He failed miserably as foreign secretary ... a demagogue not a statesman, he is the most irresponsible politician the country has seen for many years.”

Britain, now.

Car hits wall.
Damaged car reverses.
Driver puts on go-faster stripes and prepares to drive at wall once again.
Meanwhile, Opposition take their car to mechanic and say: "If we drive at that wall, what do you think will happen?"

Bush on May's gamble yesterday

"By delaying the vote, May is significantly increasing the chances that the UK will leave the EU without a deal by mistake."

Article 50 ruling shows the UK remains sovereign

The UK had sovereignty all along...

Theresa May has merely delayed the moment at which she is forced to confront reality - her deal won't pass and there are no easy alternatives

this seemed pertinent

"Both May and Corbyn are happy to let the clock run down. She hopes the delay will force MPs to change their decision. He hopes the delay means he won't ever have to decide."
