That video is one I've watched a few times, Kush. Debate is, if memory serves, "This house believes the Catholic Church is a force for good". Includes questions from the floor, which is why it is that long. The actual debate is about 10 mins per person.

The topic is clearly hugely polarising, with an artificial conclusion that it's either net positive or net negative (a matter which we are neither equipped to determine nor in a position to do anything about). Result is most of the audience aren't convinced their previously held view was wrong (do me a favour with the "i came into this with an open mind" crowd - do you know many people who are genuinely "i don't know" on that specific question?)

The quality of debating is stupendous on one side and amateur on the other. When you have two elite polemicists in full flow, discussing a topic they have well-rehearsed and strident views on, it's going to take more than Anne Widdecombe's arguments by numbers and a Bishop articulating a predictable and safe position (albeit quite well) to stop them.

They're just overwhelmed by the force of argument against. It's Barcelona v The King's Arms second XI.

Now, put Hitch in Widdecombe's seat and we would get to see a fair fight...
