Not very optimistic of her, to catch Boris out like that

Majority of 41 in favour of effectively blocking Boris Johnson from suspending Parliament to carry out a no-deal Brexit

Vote was 315-274

The new rebel alliance....

17 Tories voted amendment including ministers Margot James and Steve Brine (James has quit)

30 abstentions (inc Bradley, Clark, Hammond, Gauke, Hunt, Stewart, minister Alan Duncan, Anne Milton, Stephen Hammond + more)

this doesn't stop no-deal. But it gets pretty damn close to being able to stop prorogation, if Johnson was to try it. And it gives us some faith that parliament will stand firm in the battles to come.

The new PM will have a working majority of 3, likely to go down to 2 after Brecon by-election.

Boris Johnson is in for a rocky time.

election? pdq? get a majority without the DUP so as to be able to do something? That something being dumping the commitment to the DUP...

I reckon that will be as successful as May's attempt to do the same.

with labour in a mess, its his best shot of getting benefit of the doubt and a majority.

"I will deliver Brexit, but i need a working majority to do it. Trust me" (waves a kipper in the air as it makes people feel optimistic, apparently)

He couldn't say that after 1 Nov if its extended again or no deal or whatever happens

The cabinet abstentions appear to include:

chancellor Philip Hammond
business secretary Greg Clark
aid secretary Rory Stewart
justice secretary David Gauke

i suppose all know they won't be in a boris cabinet, so pretty clever timing by the tory remainers to have a vote today when the risk of abstention is at its lowest as its the inter-regnum period

Not sure what I think of this voting ourselves out of power scenario?

What exactly is it they hope to gain by effectively voting to force a general election?

If their party wins, surely that is still a mandate for Boris/whoever to do what they like, and they as individuals have committed political hari kari.

If their party loses, are they hoping the new govt do want they would want, in which case why not just join them(simplistic, I know, but that's how I roll)? It's not unusual at the mo!

Look at all the forecasts that are coming out for the impact of a no-deal Brexit, maybe if there was that many around three years ago, then we wouldn’t be facing this chaos.

Guess the question is where are the cuts going to happen

Principles of NHS have been noble for many years but perhaps not practical anymore, police, defence, Lineker’s salary?

Obv not a nice subject to contemplate but on a practical level reform will be a necessity as we won’t be a top country or top economy

Philip Hammond looks to be 8-1 to be next to leave the cabinet, (on odds checker https://www.oddschecker.com/politics/british-politics)

He is bound to quit before Mr Johnston sacks him, probably before TM leaves, seems good value.

At some point in time people are going to need to stop talking about how bad it’s going to be and start contributing something constructive

I mean how many links to the same bad news in different guises? Which products will we run short of this week? What threat will EU leaders issue today? What graph will illustrate the crisis most accurately this time? To what actual end?

It’s like being in the trenches with a platoon who keep crying and crying and crying. Repeating we’re all gonna die over and over and over. Look chaps the enemy are almost upon us. Please dry ur eyes and load ur weapons now.
