Margaret Thatcher spent many Christmases in the company of Jimmy Savile, does that make her a paedo or paedo sympathiser?

Talking with someone does not equal agreeing with them.

The Bin Laden quote was a very silly thing of Corbyn to say.

And it was talking to Sinn Fein (something the Tories had been doing secretly anyway) that ultimately led to peace in N Ireland.

Corbyn's problem is not that his ideas are crazy (they're not - no proposed economic policy can be considered more nuts than QE) but that they will be portrayed as nuts by the vested interests in the establishment (Tories, Blairites, newspapers, a frightened BBC).

The Bin Laden quote is one that actually sounds worse when you put in context.

Mrs Thatcher knew Saville was a paedophile?  I also think there is a difference between talking to someone and sharing a platform too.

fair enough

but it speaks to a man with poor judgement to even associate with such people

as an observer i understand the desire of labour voters to get back to their core, i understand the appeal to non voters disenfranchised by the system. i also understand there will be a big anti-blair anti war pro corbyn vote too, almost as if the labour party feels it needs to draw a line under new labour to start again

but how many have really looked at his views, understand his political history and know what it means?

i'd venture very few.

corbyn only stood to provide a "different voice", he needed to borrow nominations to get on the ballot paper. he doesn't want to be the leader

he will be anathema to the vast majority of voters come 2020 and yet the response of supporters is to say the principle is more important than winning the election

well if they don't win the election then they can't do anything about their principles

its all nuts

Corbyn is a pacifist who is vehmently against the death penalty.

I didn't shed a tear over Bin Laden being killed, but I think capturing him would definitely have been preferable.

The thing which is so refreshing about Jeremy Corbyn is he an honest man who says what he believes, not what his spin doctors think he should say.

Yes, he's a big change from someone like Andy Burnham, who passionately believes in very vague things like 'equality' and 'fairness' but comes up empty on further questioning.

This generation of Labour frontrunners is completely uninspiring and bland.

Torn so far between what Labour supporters want and what their spin doctors say the country want to hear, that they end up sounding like they have zero beliefs or anything different to offer.

I think Chukka Umunna would have walked this election if he had stood.

I have high hopes of the next generation though. Jarvis, Creasey and Starmer are all mightily impressive performers.

Agreed.  Politics going to get very interesting soon if Corbyn wins.  Proper debates and not just different shades of the same viewpoint.

What are the real odds, in your opinion, of Corbyn winning.

The next election or being Labour leader Red?

The Labour leadership. Your opinion, not what the polls say.

Think he's clear fav but needs to win outright first round.  Otherwise alternative votes may go against him.

This.

Mr Camel also wrote something on GE thread about voting for what you believed the country/populace needed ahead of personal want. And I believe this is pertinent here too.  Its important that the non sanitised voice can be heard in British politics rather then the continued arguments over which shade of grey is best.
JC wining will do more good for.politics long term then the short term gain of the Labour party in my opinion.

I have read this several times, but don't think this can be true.  If he gets 49% in the first round, for instance, he is surely home.  It isn't like you can take your vote back in round 2, and there just has to be some voters who like Yvette Cooper et al who have put him 2nd.  I expect as little as 45% in round 1 will be enough to see him home.  Obviously this is just feel and I have no insider knowledge.
