May is the latest person to use 'one nation Conservatism' as a phrase.

Can someone please explain what this actually is supposed to be, as I can't think of any party which historically divides opinon quite like they do.  Where exactly is this one nation they speak of, because I've never lived in it?

It may become my second most hated political phrase behind 'Red Tory'.

Its been around since disraeli, the centre-right politics of the tories as compared to the eurosceptic/harder line monetarism/ thatcherism

in the 1980s would have been known as "tory wets". Pro Europe too.

i dare say many will say britain is divided and the have nots are more "have not" than ever, but i do maintain that the situation is not as harsh as it might be under the tory right wing.

FWIW, which is not a lot, i fell out a touch with my MP at the time (Nadine Dorries) when i was active in politics a bit more than i am now because she described me as too wet when she was supporting one candidate (IDS, lethal man) and i was suggesting she support another back in the day ! :-)

as i said a few (about 50) pages ago i wouldn't have supported boris and was contemplating the Lib Dems if a "one nationer" didn't win

Can't see how May can hold the Tories together. She negotiates EU with free movement for trade and loses the leave or gives away God knows what to avoid free movement and remain Tories don't vote for her. Is there anyone on the leave side keen on her immigration performance so far?

Looks like a very important agreement is coming as to whether ukip do well or do scarily well. Tories trying to go GE because labour is in worse shape could backfire in a ukip rout. Politicians can't be trusted to make decisions anymore as they have already shown they have sod all idea how ppl will vote.

i think this is apposite

Rumours Boris might pull his launch - campaign team say it's 'still on' - they are FURIOUS about Gove

Did they really not see it coming? Maybe I watch House of Cards too much but I felt this was always gonna happen with Gove.

May and Eagle as main party leaders.  Really?  Is it April 1st?

Eagle only seems to be there as a palatable alternative for Corbyn to stand down for? She never gets it just don't want Corbyn to see who he will really be handing the party to. Milburn still pretending he's onside to avoid backlash? Members will not accept anyone who got too much attention for toppling Corbyn.

Can't believe Anybody thinks May looks or seems like a prime minister but neither does any of their candidates. As soon as Cameron entered the fray last time you could see him as PM. The last thing May got publicity for was her sickening cleavage show during the budget speech?

Philip Collins ‏@PCollinsTimes now1 minute ago

So Boris smashed up the whole place for nothing. For nothing.

Jim Waterson ‏@jimwaterson now12 seconds ago

That feeling when you join a referendum campaign to force a leadership coup & split the country & then decide you don't want to be leader.

Stephen Bush ‏@stephenkb now10 seconds ago

Boris screws the country, then aborts.
