Just had the Red Arrows overhead for the last half-hour.

What a waste of government money.

First thing I'm abolishing when I become Prime Minister.

Alongside all the pomp that goes with anything the mongrels who inhabit many palaces across the country and don't put in any real work.

I believe the EU were looking to ban the red arrows due to health & safety regulations or human rights or such so it's good to hear this Great British institution is still flying high, yet another benefit of our new found freedom

It was the British government that was going to get rid on cost grounds, but then they realised that the planes and the pilots can be converted to active versions quite easily in an emergency, so they got a reprieve. Except it's never going to happen, so we continue to waste £9m a year on them.

Waste? How so?

Worth every penny. Their presence at any Airshow is what really draws in the public and that alone probably creates enough spending to justify the cost.

worth every penny

bring in fortunes in tourism revenue, well above civil list costs especially now the civil list has been trimmed down
patrons of hundreds of charities, actively involved in all of them
easpecially the william/harry generation have reinvigorated the monarchy and mean it is in very good state going forward
eg recent initiatives like the invictus games that do a lot of good

The monarchy is much cheaper to maintain than an elected president would be (the president of italy for example costs almost twice as much as the queen does).

clearly it has had to modernise and i would expect that more of the civil list will not survive to the william generation being head of state but the pros far otuweigh the cons.

re sports direct blog "the majority of jobs went to east European workers".   Surely they wouldn't have had a vote?  So what is he saying - people voted Brexit because Eastern Europeans were stealing their shitty jobs?

Wouldnt the attitude be if eastern europeans didnt accept this shit (because they are treated similar worse in poland for a fraction of the pay) by not being here, sport direct would have to offer proper conditions or not have staff. The fact employers act this way is they think they can replace their staff at will, its an employers market. Reduce the labour pool and people are forced to compete for staff with terms and conditions as they arent as readily replaceable. Ofcourse alot of these beliefs are drven by people who turn up to the jobcentre key in 20 quid an hour labouring jobs.

but he says

Why should gloomy forecasts of a Brexit future worry you when you don’t even know if you’ll get paid next week?

If Sports Directs Labour practices are widespread, then he might have a point, but the people who he uses as an example in the main didn't vote.
