how do you deal with squad rotation in the top six teams?

would you apply a tiebreaker when considering two similar players towarda a team that is not in europe compared to a team in europe come october?

I'm one of the punters from 2+2 brought in for the £100 open league.

Just thought I would register and say Hi, I know a few people from the forum already, gl

Another hero has just sent me £100 for the big league. I think that's 8 now with promises of more.

Like most poker questions, it depends.
Who are you talking about?
In general, don't pick players that get rotated. Ivanovic/Terry/Hazard played every minute of every game. Rooney will play every game, more or less. Most players from lesser teams/promoted teams won't be rotated.
Virtually all Man City players will be risky, rotation wise. Someone like Oscar is in and out. Walcott and Giroud are playing for 1 place. I'm not saying never have these players, but be wary and don't have too many.

is there any work yet on the correct statategies and weeks to play all your subs? extra captain points etc?

The Triple Captain + Play Alll your Bench will be best used in a double gameweek somewhere late in the season. I guess they are worth 10-15 points each. All decent players will play it at the same time on the same players. The captain one will be played on Aguero in a DGW or Hazard in a DGW. It'll be irrelevant.
The Alll OUt Attack, meh. I'd value this chip at ~2 points. It could actually cost you points! I'd use it some week when you have injuries suspensions in defence. I may never use it and not care!

ok will ask some stupid questions

you are paying £7m for a top defender from say Arsenal/Chelsea that in previous years would be 150-175 points worth if they stay fit

by having one of these, if not two, you are compromising quality point scoring somewhere else in the team

do people tend to over-pick these top defenders when they don't need to? you can player select by spotting parsimonious defences (southampton last year), pick £5m defenders and save yourself a few million for the front seven?

If you knew before the season that Terry @ £7m would score 177 points and play every game, like he did last season, you'd put him in without another thought.
In general you don't want to be wasting transfers on defenders. If you can get a 'fire and forget' defender you can play every week, that's great. Whether you want two x £7m defenders is a asset distribution question.
It depends!

Ah not really. But there is way too much strength in depth there.
You need to be picking a strong XI and then base price sub keeper and outfield subs. Get your money on the pitch. You don't want to be rotating yourself, you'll leave too much money on the bench.
So rather than have Schneiderlin @ £5.5m as a 1st sub, you should have his former partner Wanyama @ £4.5m. They are both defensive midfielders and aren't going to score too heavy but you can re-invest that extra £1m.
Stuff like that.

Actually yeah, apart from that Schneids one, it's a decent effort.
You do want base price subs, £4m defenders and £4.5m mids but you want them all playing.
And FPL have been clever with the pricing this year and it's hard to find playing £4m defenders. Hopefully some will emerge as the season progresses.
Wanyama and Fletcher are both nailed on as £4.5m mids, there will be others too.

yep i have been scouring some local articles

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-player-enjoyed-most-9787916

i was wondering why nathan baker had been picked by lots of managers and alighted on the linked article.

people like micah richards, ciaran clark etc look better for bench fillers? hutton is a walking disciplinary record unfortunately

can do that for west brom etc.

Here's one tip.
If you don't have Rooney, your team is terrible.
Seriously. He's the 1st player every decent player has in his team this season. It's universally accepted.
Start with him and build from there.

grrr i am in 2 minds with rooney he was first guy on my list last year but he was terrible
and got dropped obviously later than i should of and by that time the costa aguero ships had sailed

i have rooney in my line up though

i have spent 99 million but could swap kane in for benteke for the 1 million

on bench i have
krul 4.5 million
barry 4.5 million
lescott 5 million
morgan 4.5 million

should/could i save more on bench and the million i havent spent should i spend on the bench if i like the players in my starting line up?

KING KANE.

Never been out of my team.

Dazzler - thoughts on the school of thought this season that suggests breaking the mould and spending more money on defence as that is where the value is? 4.5 defenders are so last year. My defence currently reads:-

Cedric
Azpi
Koscielny
Jones
Rose

Play 442 most weeks, rotating two cheaper strikers around Kane and a stellar midfield 4.

I currently do not have Rooney and he is 80-90% not going to make my team. Would mean a complete change of plans. Dreading the anti-sweat already mind you.

It depends!
This year I think it's going to be very difficult, probably impossible, to get a £4m goalkeeper, 2 x £4m defenders and a £4.5m mid that all play regularly.
That's ideally what you want so you can get all your money on the pitch in your first XI.
In the absence of that, you'll need to spend a little extra on your bench but the principle remains, you want that figure to be as low as possible.
You're £2m over already. That's not terrible but I wouldn't want to be making that £3m.
I'd probably look to invest the £1m in the starting XI.
There is a lot of merit in holding maybe £0.5m back in case you want to do a like for like transfer, say Ozil (£8.5m) -> Depay (£8.5m) but you can't coz the one you want to buy has gone up by £0.1m or yours has dropped £0.1m.
The extra cash in the bank means you can negate that problem.
Who is your other keeper? Are you rotating 2 x £4.5m?
I guess the reason you have Barry as your £4.5m mid instead of Wanyama is coz you already have the max Southampton players? Smiley
