I'm trying to get myself back onto a semi UK sleep pattern before I go away, but this might put a spanner in the works Cheesy

Yes, she does sound very savvy, and not just pinging ads out with Daily Sport taglines etc.

What is she likely to do, if she's caught somewhere she cannot progress? Move to another area of government?

Maybe. They've added her onto tonight's speakers at the Convention, so that's a start.

That's a good springboard to something, you'd think.

If you say “ATM machine”, don’t feel bad.

This is horrible. Herschel Walker saying Trump was a great father cos he tagged along at the last minute in a business suit when other people were taking his kids to Disneyland, followed by the Parkland father supporting gun ownership, followed by the gun couple. Do they think this attracts voters? This is just for the base.

There wasn't much in last night that would have attracted someone who wasn't already voting for Trump.

Summary:
- Biden is a radical Socialist.
- Trump has done an incredible job with the Covid.
- America is not a racist country.
- If the Democrats get power, they will allow mobs to overrun your neighbourhood.

I thought Donald Jr was good, though comparing Biden with the Loch Ness Monster was a stretch, but Kimberley Guilfoyle went mental. After taking a swipe at California (where her ex-husband is the Governor, so maybe there are unresolved issues), she went into overdrive. Banker for SNL to do her.

Yeah, I thought Don was pretty good, but have seen her ranting before and turned it off.

Jim Jordan must be on a promise with his little piece, too.

Now we know why they've been so quick to remove the postboxes.

It's yours for $500, signed by the President.

I gave him a pass, hardly the biggest error and he was largely coherent for the rest of it Cheesy

I think tonight is going to be the worst night of the Convention - a bit like putting your worst runner on the second leg of the relay. It looks pretty drab until Pam Bondi comes on. She's the ex AG of Florida who has pulled a variety of dodgy manoeuvres that rubbed up against the boundaries of legality over the years, some for Trump but prior to him also. Before her we have Tiffany and Eric, the teenager who blocked the tribal elder, the CFO of a dairy farm in Minnesota, the owner of a metal company in Wisconsin, a lobsterman from Maine (I'm not joking), a former abortion clinic director turned anti-abortion campaigner and a mother who wants the driver who killed her son to be deported. At least Bondi will be interesting, and she might try to bribe someone. It should pick up after that, until Rand Paul depresses everyone.

The last two will be Pompeo and Melania. There's a right rumpus going on over Pompeo. The Democrats and others are saying that he is the country's top diplomat, so it's "a disgraceful abuse of office" that he is speaking. It's hard for us to see what the issue is - it's like saying the Foreign Secretary can't speak at a political event, and Pompeo is no career diplomat - he was a Republican Congressman for six years until Trump came calling and he's likely to try for the party's Presidential nomination in 2024. Nevertheless, Joaquin Castro (Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Oversight Committee), has declared it unprecedented and possibly illegal, and has opened an investigation into it. Mike should be moderately interesting in a boring kind of way.

The night finishes with a sparkle though. Melania is coming to us from the White House Rose Garden, which she has just remodelled. She may be leaving in a few months, so the need to change it is questionable, and the new design has received less-than-universal approval, with many feeling that Jackie Kennedy's 1961 design was better and should have been left intact. There is already a campaign for Biden to restore it as Kennedy had it, though he may have other priorities. I'm sure Melania will be great. Depending on how it goes, she may be the highlight of the Convention.

The Rose Garden - tops by Jackie Kennedy, bottoms by Melania Trump.

Hopefully someone goes way off script, so we've got some good stuff for Krystal and Saagar tomorrow.

Pompeo always strikes me as a bit unhinged, for some reason.

Melania delivered a nice speech at the 2016 Convention. Let's hope tonight's is as well-written.
