Are you an American Pickers fan?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Pickers

I wondered whether this might appeal.

It's a great format for a show and I would like to like it but, as with so many American shows I just can't stand the 'treat you like you're 5' way it's presented.

If they would just credit the audience with an ounce on intelligence I wouldn't mind, but they explain everything so repetitively, and in such a condescending way, add to this the the way that, before and after every break they re cap what you have just seen, and show a preview of what you're going to see next and I feel like slitting my wrists.

Oh, and I hate it when three or four people are supposed to be having an impromptu conversation and they all stand in a line facing the camera.

I can't disagree with that.

Oh, and I hate it when three or four people are supposed to be having an impromptu conversation and they all stand in a line facing the camera.

Or that.

But I make allowances for it being designed for an American audience.

"How much for the sign?"
"Hmmm. Make me an offer"

(Cuts away)

"I knew there and then he was up for a deal. It's just a matter of getting the right price."

(Cuts back)

"350?"
"I was thinking more like...550"

(Cuts away)

"So we're 200 bucks apart but I'm delighted, cos we're talking the same language now and doing the dance"

(Cuts back)

And so on.

JUST SHOW US THE FLIPPING HAGGLE!

I get it. A lot of US shows are like it. But the show has a delicious second level, because you have to wade through all that noise and repetition to find a gem of a programme.

Truly fascinating.

They reckon our best chance of seeing what the dinosaurs really looked like is to download the memory of some other creature that was around at the time, like this honey bee, perfectly preserved in amber for 16 million years.

Yep. Very interesting photo. Can't find much info about the hotel though. I thought the internet would be awash with it.

I looked it up.

The hotel seems to have been closed for the last couple of years.  Allegedly it was overpriced and falling apart.   Magnificent views though, but you can get them from the car park.

Apparently it is close to a glacier that is disappearing, which may well have been the reason it is where it was.

Sad in many ways.

If you look up belvedere hotel you can find more.

Think you'll love this.  I was just lookig around and there seems to be several copies of that hotel photo around on the internet, often without credit.

The man who took that photo is Alex Strohl, and is a fellow traveller.  His photos look mostly wonderful.

Here he is speaking on a film at the bottom of this page.  I even love his land rover/tent/lights set up.

He has produced a book that unfortunately seems to have sold out.

What an interesting bloke.

Mrs Red & I attended a steam rally come classic car come dog show over the weekend and we stayed on site in our little camper. Parked next to us was a chap with exactly the same 'tent on top of Land Rover' set-up as the one in your link.

One morning, we watched as he emerged from the tent backwards. Missing his footing on the ladder he fell to the ground. Hearing the resulting thump and groan, his female companion shouted from within the tent for the benefit of the passing crowds,  "and stay out!"
