Going back to the trapped miners, how long do you think you would have to be in total darkness before you went blind?

No idea, Tom, but they have adequate light, apparently.

Yes, I know, but it got me wondering, that's all.

As a boy, my dad told me about a book he had read called "The Blockhouse" (I think it was called that) My recolection is a bit vague, but It was about a group of men trapped in a vast underground store room. They had enough food and water to last a lifetime, they also had enough candles to last a lifetime, but they wasted them, burning hundreds at once. Eventually, in total darkness, they went blind, but they didn't know until they were rescued.

i've heard about that place before.  wouldn't mind giving it a go tbh - would save having to bother with doing hair/make up and all that rubbish.

Also heard about it and would very much like to go some day.  Definitely on the 'to do' list.

I've just found out about those trapped miners. 4 months to get them out?

Anyone know how big the space they're trapped in is?

How are they going to keep them healthy, especially when they all have to do their business down there? (I assume they have shovels?)

It will be a bit of a bugger if one of them gets appendicitis or something. Do you think they could send down a scalpel and talk someone through the operation?

Just catching up with your thread after a few days away. Doctors note on the way.
On the news the other day it was said they were in a room approx 50 sq/mtr, not very big considering they may be there for months. Depending on the shape a 50 sq/mtr drive could fit three average size cars on. For a free quotation 01782 66......  Grin

I once fried some bacon using a bar of soap instead of lard.

It was dark and I was drunk.

I ate the bacon.

A good friend om mine sent me this today.

THE ONLY SURVIVING PHOTO ALBUM FROM AUSCHWITZ ...

AND SOME SAY THIS NEVER HAPPENED!!!!!

THE ONLY SURVIVING PHOTO ALBUM FROM AUSCHWITZ .

Why it has not been around before is a mystery.

TAKE A DEEP BREATH BEFORE WATCHING THIS........

    LEST WE FORGET!!

    THE AUSCHWITZ ALBUM

This Album memorializes the arrival of Hungarian Jews to
   Auschwitz in May of 1944.

It is the only one of its kind, and it is solely due to this
album that we have a visual history of what occurred in the
   Auschwitz-Birchenau death camp.

The album was discovered after the war by an Auschwitz
survivor, Lily Jacob, who donated it to Yad Vashem in 1980.

Now, with the aid of the Internet, it can be viewed by
millions of people, anywhere in the world.

Please pass this around, to help assure that people will
continue to bear witness to this evil legacy.
