could be planning to do Gypsy funerals next Tom. Thoughts?
Gypsy funerals are typically very big affairs, with hundreds, sometimes thousands of mourners. It's not unusual for funeral routes, including city centres to be closed to other traffic while the procession goes through.
The wreaths, (Often several lorry loads) are spectacular, depicting scenes or objects that were important to the deceased.
Gypsy funerals have, until now, been relatively private. but, as with all communities, there are bound to be a few who will invite the cameras in, and then, no doubt, we will have a whole new crop of myths to deal with.
the pubs near where I live used to shut when there was a Gypsy funeral. On the program last night it showed a few pubs near appleby that closed. Is this down to fighting or something else?
Its a mixture of several things.
Some pubs don't want large groups of loud, heavy drinking, strange talking men upsetting their regulars. (To an outsider, Gypsies trying to have a deal can sound like they are about to have a fight)
Of course there is always the possibility that there will be a fight. (just as there is when any other group of drunken men get together)
Some landlords are afraid because they only know Gypsies as stereotypes.
Some landlords are racist. (Others are not, but some of their regulars are) Let the Gypsies in in this situation, and the pub becomes a tinderbox. When the inevitable fighting breaks out, everyone says "The Gyppo's are at it again".
I think i mentioned it before but one friday I went out with a mate, and every single pub was shut near the cemetery. I thought it was very strange.
I'm playing devils advocate a little here so bear with me but again I have been to quite a few funerals and havent seen a fight at any. Have you seen many fights at funerals?
nevermind, its a rubbish question.

there haven't been any comments on it yet but i thought the scenes where they had a gathering in the graveyard, where disgusting. Not the fact that they came together to remember someone but they showed footage of the people sitting on other peoples gravestones, standing on there graves alsorts.
if i turned up at a family members grave to find people sitting on the head stone drinking i would hit the roof and violence would follow
Well I'm not sure where Paddy's son is buried, but it would be usual for the grave to be amongst others from the same family, so surrounding stones could have been their own, as it were. But then again perhaps not, I don't really know.
I do know that those people would not deliberately be disrespectful of the dead, and I also suspect that violence wouldn't solve anything.

Some random, and generally useless facts for you Tom.
The woman that done the flowers for my mum's funeral is a Gypsy.
One of the guys at the funeral yesterday, that I have known for 15 years or so, is a Gypsy. I didn't know until this week.
No need to thank me
That
is
interesting. How did you find out?

I will ask you this question instead of starting a thread about it, how come the prime minister has one of the most important and influential jobs in the country yet there are a ton of people working for the government for instance chief execs of councils who earn a lot more money than he does ? Maybe I'm missing something but that baffles me.

red - are you working for ftp support?
This is their response to my query about lagging/bad connection (unique to ftp).........
Hello David,
Thank you for your response.
I have had the opportunity to review the test you have submitted to us and can identify an issue. Each "*" in this report, indicates a failed return of information. This could simply be a network setting preventing this type of traffic, or it could indicate a larger problem.
To try and resolve this issue, we would ask that you turn off all devices on your network and power cycle your network. To power cycle your network, please do the following:
- Shut your computer down.
- Unplug your modem, router and computer from the power source and from each other.
- Leave it unplugged for 5 to 10 minutes
- Plug your modem back into the power source and let it cycle (you will see the lights flashing).
- Plug your router into the power source, then into the modem and allow it to cycle.
- Plug your computer in to the power source, then into your router and turn your computer back on.

Was talking to my sister about Gypsy wedding show. ( I still haven't seen it apart from 30 seconds last night), I was saying that most of the people on there aren't Gypsies etc. She said she was talking to Paul (the guy we know) and he was saying the same thing, I asked how he would know so much.... and there you go. He doesn't even have a moustache like you. Crazy.

That's actually quite an interesting question, I wish I knew the answer.
Still, no matter. I'm sure a gaudily shirted know it all will be along presently to enlighten us.

I was pretty shocked when I heard how little a PM gets and I do think it is little, considering the job. It's something I'd thought about before but forgot to query it, it got mentioned tonight on the news, I think it said 43% of Chief execs for councils earn more money than the PM, bizzare.

they had a few stones there but there were alot of people there so they spilled out everywhere, stood , sat on graves , loud music, booze. I know violence wouldnt help but if i saw that with one of my loved ones graves i dont think i could control myself.
In my opinion that small clip done more to damage the travellers reputation than the rest of the series combined

For that point to be valid, wouldn't we have to assume that all travellers are the same?

no because im not saying they are all the same , just that it was damaging. in my opinion it came across as they didnt care who they offended they would do what they liked and it was 40+ people not just a few
