Spalling is an excellent description of the defect - but is there any chance it could have been impacted (lightly) by a vehicle. Its very strange to see concrete surface spall like that due to frost action and the like

Yes, I'd describe the second as "spalling". However, if you look closely, it appears that the concrete has been overlaid with a thin screed or "skim" of some facing material, & it is this that has failed, it has "popped". |

Yes, I'd describe the second as "spalling". However, if you look closely, it appears that the concrete has been overlaid with a thin screed or "skim" of some facing material, & it is this that has failed, it has "popped". Spalling and grinning seem to be very closely linked. The pic below is described as spalling. This seems like a good example of the impact damage that Guy was referring to earlier.  |

I remember Anaglypta. It was like walpaper with bits in. Usually painted in magnolia emulsion. |
