Does Mrs Red wear her poppy upside-down or is it everyone else?

Could be my memory playing up, but I think the chap on the left is wearing his late father's jacket and that's why the medals are on the "wrong" side.
Your memory is playing well.

She does lots of things upside-down.

About five years ago rumors of a great discovery reached me from friends & colleagues in the States.
A cache of thousands photos & negatives had been bought in auction of an undiscovered genius of Street Photography. The Holy Grail for those of us who work & deal in this field.

Vivian Maier, a remarkable, enigmatic & great photographer.
A DVD dropped through my door this morning.
I'm still chasing treasures this side of the pond.
Absolutely fascinating!
If you get to see any more of her images, please post them.

Was quite interested to see that all (?) the Premier League footballers had "embroidered" poppies on their shirts this weekend.
A good thing, I guess, but it seemed a bit "forced" to me. Not sure why that made me a little uneasy, as it has to be good on balance.
I did the Sky Poker TV show on Saturday, wearing "TV clothes" rather than regular street gear, & of course I forgot to transfer my poppy. Soon as I got in the Studio, the Floor Manager said "here's a Poppy for you". I was, at the same time, annoyed with myself for forgetting to bring my own poppy, but ever so slightly uncomfy that I was being, sort of, obliged to wear it. Of COURSE I wanted to wear a poppy, but it seemed a bit wrong to be almost told to wear one. Not sure if that makes sense?

Good post Tony. Wearing a poppy should be something which is absolutely up to the individual and the idea of it being a default for people in the public eye unless they specifically opt out makes me very uncomfortable. It also feels like it lessens the power of it too. I would have a lot more respect for public figures that wore a poppy if I felt as though they had made that decision themselves rather than having it forced upon them.

This is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the most annoying advert ever to make it on to a TV screen.
Others, (like controlling your heating at home while dancing with a kipper or whatever it is), I can just turn down and ignore, but I always end up shouting at the telly all the way through this one.

The increase in 'enforced' public poppy wearing seems to coincide with involvement in wars the public didn't particularly agree with. It's put me off wearing one, then the forcing footballers to wear them (I felt it was very wrong seeing German, Japanese & Irish players expected to wear a tribute solely to the troops who had fought their countrymen). However I still gave to the British Legion, largely through respect for the members of it I know locally.
This year they (The Legion) will not get a penny though after they took one of the great anti-war songs (The Green Fields of France) & released it having taken out the poignant anti-war ending, I'm not backing such jingoism.

Agreed - but I've actually got the product (bought before those tiltingly annoying ads) and it is rather good, it's handy being able to switch off your heating with your mobile if oyu've left it on when you go out, and great being able to turn it up on the way home.

Occasionally, (Quite regularly actually) I wake up in the wee small hours and find myself insanely worried or depressed about some trivial, nonsensical thing. I understand at the time that it's trivial, and that I will laugh about it in the morning, but it doesn't make me feel even the slightest bit better.
Over the years I have developed coping strategies. The best, most sure-fire one is to just get up and start my day, even if it is 4am, but sometimes I can manage without going to such extremes.
One of my tricks is to have a dollop of my favorite Radio 4 programme pod casts downloaded on to my phone. then, when I need to, I can pop an earpiece into the ear I'm not lying on and play them back. The beauty of this system is it usually distracts me from what ever foolish thing I'm worrying about long enough for me to fall to sleep, it doesn't disturb Mrs Red, and each individual programme stops automatically as soon as it ends. If I want to hear another I have to select it.
Last night, I listened to one of my regular downloads, a 14 minute jobbie called 'Inheritance Tracks', where a guest is invited to talk about a couple of songs that he/she regards as a part of their inheritance.
The guest last night was John Craven, (he of News-round fame) and named "You are my sunshine" as his first track.
During the war, John's dad was incarcerated in a Japanese prisoner of war camp, and because John was born in 1940 he didn't have a chance to get to know him until his release in 1945, but every night when she put him to bed, John's mum used to tell him stories about his dad, and then sing 'You are my sunshine' as a lullaby.
When John's dad came home, John ran to meet him, which was a huge relief to everyone, (especially dad) because lots of young children rejected their fathers and ran the other way because they had no idea who these strangers were.
John's dad was lucky to make it out alive, John found out later that the father who lifted him on to his shoulders and carried him back to the house weighed less than 5 stones at the time. During captivity he had been starved almost to death, had survived malaria and appendicitis. (His mates removed his appendix by anesthetising him with wine made from a few grains of rice donated by each prisoner for this purpose, then using a sliver of sharpened bamboo as a scalpel).
John Craven Senior lived until he was 80.
I don't know what JC junior's second 'Inheritance track' was. I fell asleep.
