I spotted a nest today. Two birds present, some kind of raptor but I'm not sure what, I was too far away to see clearly. (I'm hoping they are peregrines.
I took a couple of pics with my phone but it was woefully inadequate. I will go back with my point & shoot and try again next week.

Went back to have another go at photographing the supposed peregrines and there they were, gone.
I managed to get a better shot of where they used to be, then I waited half an hour an one came screaming out of the sun, (well it would have done if it hadn't been raining) and landed too far away to get a decent pic.
Is it possible to tell what it is from this picture Rod?

Same colour as a kestral and not dissimilar to one of my snaps - hence the possible recognition.

Thinking the same as Karabiner, the pic there looks like a kestrel. Really difficult to tell without something for scale , getting an impression of the size really helps. Also from the pics of the nest site, there's no nest as such, kestrels seem happy with a scrape on a ledge, but all peregrine nests I've seen have had a pile of sticks on a fairly wide ledge, again the ledge in your pic looks quite narrow.
Not certain at all but a kestrel would be what I put my money on.

Thanks Rod.
I'm going to say that it bantam sized, the clock's plumage was considerably brighter than the hen's.
I saw the cock fly a few times but he did straight lines, I didn't see him hover.
I will hopefully get a better pic soon.

Yeah, still think kestrel, a peregrine is a bit bigger than a bantam, they catch and eat red grouse, which are roughly bantam sized.

Great footage Rod, that first stoop is spectacular, it made my heart beat faster.

Can remember being on Blankney golf course fourth hole and an old tree near the green
In an hole in the tree was a wasps nest and I spent ages just watching a peregrine darting past taking the wasps
It was nesting in near by quarry

Was initially sceptical there & thinking surely it was a merlin, but some googling later and insects sometimes make up part of a peregrine's diet. Always something more to learn
Cheers.
