How does selling action in a cash game work Alex? Is it always at 1.0 or do markups sometimes happen? Is it sold on a session-by-session basis or longer term?

Just curious. Loving the insights from the latest updates.

I guess Alex will have done this one of two ways.

Sold to action to his backer (and put it on makeup)

or sold to another friend at 1.0 as there is no makeup or guarantee of being sold action again.

Yeh its interesting because I've never heard of any cash game action sold at markup but it kinda makes no sense why not. Why would there not be games of different value, where you could charge differing markups. I'm sure it must go on but I've never heard of it and never thought about how to calculate it.

To answer your question, I don't have a backer for cash games but if there's an especially big game then I have a couple of people I can text a simple "want x% of this game?" and they'll usually just take whatever I want to sell and trust that if I'm playing it for the other y% on my own dime then it's a good spot for them too. It's session by session yes.

When I played in Macau I had a backer and that was obviously a longer term deal with makeup etc.

Crikey Alex, even I was sweating the river on that biggie when you had the nut flush.

Must say, your PLO must have improved since I last played you when you were calling with utter spanners.

See you this evening. And no, I won't be playing PLO cash tonight.

Today I think I beat my previous record for worst ever hourly rate in a cash game.

Twice.

I played PLO for roughly 17 minutes losing a thousand pounds for an hourly rate of - £3529.41

Then my holdem seat came open and I lost £3.5k in about 14 minutes (-£15k hourly) but won a chunk back but still booked a £1500 loss in roughly 49 minutes for an hourly rate of -£1836.73

Also played and busted the hiroller but that was a long draw out process over many hours, so actually a pretty decent hourly there, in triple figures at least!

Plan tomorrow: reverse the above.

Are you still excited to take shots now? I sometimes find myself passing on reasonable games I might have sat in before, just to lower the variance a bit. Part of it might be confidence in the game or something like that but I do wonder if it's just getting old. I'll fb you about swaps in barca. Feel a bit robbed about last year :p Hopefully get a dinner or something in next week?

Enjoy the stuff you're writing Alex, and respect for updating even when things don't go so well.
Good luck for Sky & Barca.

Yes I am definitely still excited to take shots. I do know what you mean though but I think because I play so much live cash with a mix of tournaments that I don't feel the variance like you do, so I embrace a big game or a shot at a tournament or two because I don't go through the MTT swings that you do.

I take more shots now than I used to I think. Someone asked me once, in reference to the best cash game I play, what is the most you are prepared to lose in that game in one night?", and when I thought about it honestly, I would be prepared to lose all but £10k of my roll maybe! So if that's true, then why do I sell pieces for good games? I'm cutting down on that a lot now and will have 100% of myself for almost all cash games now.

I'm fully prepared to rebuild again from that level, think I've done it twice before, even from lower and it's not even that bad.

So yesterday was a fun day. I re-entered the hiroller on day two with 25bbs (most punty reg I've done to date lol) but had a good start but no good in the end.

It was about 2pm when I bust and there was a 5/5 game at 7pm so I had some time to kill. There was a 1/1 456 plo game going, which seemed perfect! I bought in for £200 and god moded it for a while, turning that into £1600 (my second 1/1 god mode of the trip!) but then spun down to about £700 but still booked a nice win.

I was feeling tired and had a 9am flight but really wanted to play the holdem game all night so went to my car for a 40 minute nap at around 6. Was awesome haha.

The hold'em game was so much fun, always good to battle with my old buddy Mitch with whom I have so much history and I ran pretty decent and booked a nice win to get me out of it from the previous days nightmare.

Skalie has done such a good job with the cash games at DTD, they seem to be really thriving at the moment. The spin the wheel promotion is awesome and I've heard of some great new plans for future promotions.

Played Decided to play the 10k in Barca as well as all the other stuff, so its going to be a big next 8 days or so.

About to board the plane, 2.5 hours sleep, let's do this!

London is finally living up to my expectations. The games this week have been absolutely incred. I've played some of the best games of my life this week.

I rarely post hands here these days but I've had some real thrills this week so I'll share the best ones.

£2/2 Triple Flop Omaha

My hand:     Two Diamonds

 Board 1:
 Board 2:
 Board 3:

...There was a guy who repotted pre who only ever does that with AAxxxx even when he shouldn't, so he obviously had the middle board, which i have up to 21 outs to win. The other guy had probably turned a house on board 1, so i have just two outs there. And on the bottom board I'm pretty thin but likely win with a Jack or spade so have about 20% there.

Why are we never assuming Steven (AAxxxx) has nut spades?
I can't say i knew what your hand was at the time as things got a little cray, but it seems really really thin, especially considering Rob's (Seat1's) shove was actually 1.6k - 1k more after your C-Bet. I'd say Rob's range here was always nutted on at least two boards so he's more likely to have 9/7/5 and Steven is always futilely hoping AAxx will improve.
On the middle board we also have ~16 outs with only 4 nut outs. If we assume one of the villains may also have turned the bottom straight we're calling for a chop at best if we're dominated.

Obviously all of this is in hindsight but I probably wouldn't make a habit of putting yourself in those spots.

Meh, think you're overlooking a few things here.

If good/big/great games are coming along often then you don't want to be rebuilding and missing those games completely. Better to sell a piece so that if you do run really bad you're at least able to try and realise some of that EV!

That's true. The things is the type of game im talking about is really VERY hard to come by. Each situation on its own merit of course but id be happy punting pretty massive if it was worth it.
