Dad's going into hospital for some pretty major surgery on his leg today. From what I can tell they're basically going to cram it full of titanium. Pretty nervous to be honest albeit mostly about mowing the lawn while he recovers!

Sorry to hear about your Pops, hope all goes well..

On a personal note I have two rods in my right hand, you might have noticed the scars I have on it.  Depending how serious the surgery is, the surgery is usually used for alignment or fractures that are not healing properly, it took me 3 months to recover from the operation and I was boxing again within 6 months, the pain after surgery when the anesthetic wears out is excruciating, but after a couple of days the pain vanished.. The healing process was a little frustrating but easily overcome with physio..

I'm sure he'll recover in no time... All the best..

He's went in for something similar but nowhere near as drastic a few years back. There's like a nail or two in his shin, but what they're doing this time apparently is putting two blocks of metal either side of his ankle and fusing them together. Sounds like a day at the beach... Went with mom to see him yesterday. He wasn't allowed to eat for 12 hours prior to the surgery and then it got delayed a further six, so he was understandably tired and fairly unresponsive. Asked how it went, got a thumbs up. Asked how he was feeling, got a thumbs down. He was clearly in a lot of pain, which is obviously a little distressing for any loved one, but it's emotionally a little bit more poignant when it's your own father, you know? I'm going to bring him home on Friday all being well; that's when the hard bit starts!

Thanks for the messages guys, means a lot. Smiley

Grinding the Gala 50/1 game again last night. To begin with we were just five handed, with three semi-competent players and one gambler. We fired up some basic props to make the game look as fun and as splashy as possible to attract some fish. It's been a while since I've played props; even though we only played suits, it was enough to keep the game lively and even though I was knocking it in a bit 'cause apparently there were no spades in the deck the table was loving it.

Hadn't really played many pots when the following happened. Those who have followed the diary will be well aware of my love affair with pocket queens. Every time I play at Gala I pick them up like once an hour, and they must account for most of my lifetime lost equity. So, like clockwork: QQ. I open UTG and my favourite dealer from Dusk Till Dawn - Matthew Lythgoe-Thomas - makes the call. He decides to donk lead on J 8 6, and I call. He check calls the 4 on the turn, and shoves for half pot on the 6 river. Naturally, he's somehow made it to the river with Q6o and takes a good chunk off me. He said to me before the game started that his goal for the night was to make the diary, so grats mate.

Found the QQ a little later versus the spot, and lost another chunk. Opened pre, went four ways to the flop of Q 6 4 r. He checks, I bet, he calls. J on the turn. He checks, I bet, he calls. 9 on the river, he checks, I bet, he raises. I didn't even think about it before I called, 'cause obviously I only lose to backdoor straights. He made a backdoor straight.

Eventually justice was done when I found QQ for the third and final time of the night and flopped a set on Q 4 3 twotone. Villain, who had been incredibly quiet all night suddenly finds the checkraise. We get it in, and the 3 nails the turn to leave him drawing dead.

Really happy with the way I played for the rest of the night, picking up lots of small pots, making some good calls, all the while still in the hole - and in the knowledge that both villains who cracked the queens has gone broke to the two nits. Sigh. Then we played a pot where the old Sean definitely makes the call and significantly reduces his hourly. Wink The fish UTG makes it £3 and everyone calls to my in the cutoff. I've got the deuces so do a peel and we go seven ways to the flop of Q T 4 r. Everyone checks and the turn comes a 2 bringing a backdoor flush draw. The chinese leads out for £13 into £21, I call, and the button calls. The river comes the offsuit 3, chinese leads for £35 so I'm sure by this point he has a big two pair hand, maybe a set of fours but pretty unlikely so I make the call. The guy on the button then makes it £85.50. The chinese tanks for ages and folds. Now I have a decision to make. Basically decide that he can beat two pair, so he can beat bottom set. More than likely has 65 or A5 that turned a flush draw, do a bit sigh, fold face up, get shown the A5. £50 saved is £50 earned!

Finished the night winning a measly sum of £12, but given how I ran I'm pretty happy with results. Gala I've missed you.

Nice write up.  I already miss gala!

Really played there twice, tournaments both times, first time the players were trying to chop it 15 ways I vetoed it, so they proceeded to try and go all in every time i was in a pot.. So I agreed to chop when we got down to 10 players (£300 each, which wasn't too bad)

Second time, on the final table 3 players were very vocal about soft playing each other because they had something called a "Raah Raah" when I asked why they were playing in the same tournament in the first place one of them called me a ***** albeit under his breath.  So I called him a mullet back and which point I was given a warning for being aggressive at the table....? Got down to 5 players and they insisted a chop... I was just happy it was over...

lol yeah seen some pretty horrendous things in that building. Looks like they're getting their shit together though, they actually look after the poker a little bit now. Going to be a G Casino soon as well so hopefully they will put some lights in the place instead of candles.

Probably in no small part due to the new team in charge, although I'm not entirely sure if that's what you were angling toward...

It's like you took all the good stuff from Alea's cardroom and put them in a casino which actually attracts customers. A little bit gutted that I won't have some of the most bizarre stories to tell any longer, but maybe it's good that I can finally chronicle some degenerate behaviour and some swongs without feeling the need to interlace them with tales of random violence and projectile body fluids.

Alright folks, it's that time of the week again; the time of week when a successful live pro takes his hard earned dollars and breaks them even online. As always, half of my action is available and I will frequently and abundantly post updates exit hands on Twitter. Only playing 25 this Sunday but schedule includes the normal range of hotters, biggers, KOs and some turbs towards the end of the day.

50% = $89.70
25% = $44.85

Stars dollars preferable please, but xfer is fine!
