Apparently September had one last shot up its sleeve, and in the £50 freezeout at Dusk last night elicited a near perfect bubble. Finishing 12th out of 92, with 9 paid. Happy with the way I played for the most part, ran at EV at showdown, although there were perhaps a couple of hands I could have played differently. (I only just this second realised the connection as well.)

On my first table, the blinds were 200/400/25. I have three nits to my left and blinds, in theory at least, were pretty easy to take down. The guy in seat 8 did just get AQ every other hand though. Miraculously it's been limped to my button, I find the and limp along, the small completes and the big checks. Five to the flop of . The first limper leads out for 850, folded to me and I do a call. Heads up to the turn of , where he bets 1,200. I flat again. The river comes the two spades and he bets 1,200 again. I am of the opinion that with his line and cheap river bet, coupled with his fishy demeanor, that I can only really beat a bluff and he isn't bluffing. There's only one worse 8 that he can have that he limps. I call anyway and am not surprised to be shown the .

The next questionable hand (in sequence of time, not questionability) came when there were four tables left. Blinds were 600/1,200/100 and the average was around 28k. I'm playing around 52k and the chip leader is to my left. It's folded to me in the hijack, and I open to 2,700 with . The chippo calls and the blinds fold. The flop brings the . I lead for 3,500 and he calls pretty quickly. The turn comes a Two Clubs which we check check. The river comes the which seems like the perfect card to barrel, so I bet 6,100. He tanks for a while and calls it off with . I was about to give credit to his call, when I looked up and caught a glimpse of someone with crossed eyes, bucked teeth, and flappy ears, right before he let out the goofiest chuckle ever recorded. Probs thought it was a special needs group, which would explain why he was sat next to me.

My exit hand was with 8bb, where I shoved and the big blind found and held. Immediately left the card room, and landed in the cash game at Alea, where I ground out a profit of £117. The first table broke, where I took away £80 or so and should have left then, as I was incredibly tired and playing far from optimally. As fortune would have it, though, I made a fairly spewy float with a gutshot and one over versus Tim '7ball' Chung, binked the over and got a pot sized value bet. I can't truly explain my thought process, as most of my brain power was going into keeping my eyelids from closing. Limp-folded a bunch of small pairs before deciding to call it a night, and a month.

Net win: £635.00
Hours played: 103.5
Win rate: £6.14/hr

Not at all impressive until you consider that 25 working hours ago I was in the hole for £1,928.

Me 1 September 0

Let's go October!

This is getting easier with the re-introduction of cash games at Alea; it means I don't spend half of my poker career waiting for a dealer to arrive at the table.

Being a Nottingham boy, just wondered what the Alea Cash game menu is?

I assume 10pm+ before a game gets going, and on what nights?

On a few occasions, the games have started pre 10pm. Would normally arrive 9.30 to guarantee a seat. They usually run 2x 50p/£1 games per night, two players are rake free every hour, rake is 5% capped at £5, min £40 max £200. Every other Monday they run a £2/£5 game. Dealers there are also trained to deal PLO, or DC if they got interest.

October seems to have started off well enough.

I got to Alea around 11; even though I was told they were running some private, sponsored event and it was unlikely they were going to be running the regular cash games I just wanted to see what was going on. Any cash game is better than a Gala cash game. I arrived to find all the dealers chilling in the Hidden Bar with a few drinks, discussing a cash game. I sighed a little when it was declared that, "Sean's here! We have to start a game now!" The starting lineup consisted of five Alea dealers, the cardroom manager, myself, and two fishbowls. The fishbowl in seat 9 was some Asian guy who's becoming somewhat of a reg (fingers crossed), and the guy in seat 2 to my immediate right is the guy I lost my biggest 50p/£1 pot to.

The boss came over with the cash float, and amongst the twinkling black and red chips, and the blue and yellow shrapnel, there lay with an air of insouciance: GREY chips. Grey chips to the tune of 25p. I was about to move down stakes for the night and play in a game with a bunch of tipsy, tired dealers. It's as if we were back at Cambridge Al's old abode after getting an early chop from Dusk on a Wednesday evening.

A few orbits in, after the frantic fascination of 4betting to £8.75 had ceased to amuse and the game had leveled out, I took it upon myself to abuse my tight image. This included opening Two Clubs in mid position to £1.75. I picked up three callers, including Paul Geary who inexplicably shotgunned the seat to my immediate left. I check a flop of to induce some aggression from Paul who hovered around his chips for a while, took a leer at me and checked behind. Maybe it is true what Debbie Fox told me after watching me play one hand lifetime: I am a tellbox. I lead the turn and get called in two spots, then overshove the pot on a river, where Jack The Riffler stacked off with the nut straight.

Stef, the cardroom manager was next. I 5bet shoved before he declared that he "wanted to go home and catch Breaking Bad," and went broke with . Then it was Paul's turn. He was on the kind of tilt that can only be brought about by low stakes games. It's almost inexplicable, but nonetheless inevitable that the tilt gets passed around in sub NL100 games. The non-Asian fishbowl decided to get involved and donate as well, getting 80bb in pre with . My held, as Paul revealed he had, "ten high, and I don't know what I'm doing or why I'm even on tilt."

The boss called last three hands at the young hour of 03:30, but I'd won 3.5BI in that game and called it a night. My graph for October looks awesome. Peace.

The only Jack Wills stuff I've ever tried on is sweatpants, and I'm a medium, and they're absolutely massive on me. Congrats on the Dolce & Gabbana brags.
