One of the hardest things to do when juggling a daytime fitness regime with a late night poker schedule is finding the motivation to get in a session at the gym after a significant loss the night before. Especially when it's snowing outside! I'd love nothing more than to sit here in my sherpa-lined hoodie, eating jaffa cakes all day, watching my Frasier box-sets and chalk it up to the weather. However, I made a promise to myself, so instead of tearing open the cellophane inside that deep blue box and stuffing myself full of chocolate and tangy orange jelly, I'm pre-heating my pans in preparation for my protein-rich "pretentious breakfast."

Ian Gascoigne; such a hero. Has seen me play poker and still wants 10%. That's an incredible level of support right there.

I'm pretty much sold out and I haven't even decided whether or not to play. Guess I might as well flick it in now. Will be posting on staking board with 30% reserved.

Looks like you sold out pretty quick, well done.

Do the Gala games run most nights? Might pop in and donate in February but last time I went Gala for a tourny I chose a night where there was no runners and cash games presumably run as the people get KO'd from tourny?

It's a strange paradox that I face as well. I'll go one day and there will be nobody there, and as such I will fade the same day next week to find that five drunk millionaires spent the night spooning out chips to everyone. It's hit and miss, but you can alnost guarantee a game on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Thursday not until about 10 or 11, but the games at the weekend used to kick off about 9 or so and presumably still do.

Nik (tight4better) will probs be able to offer some more detailed insight.

Last night at Gala was practically the polar opposite of Tuesday's fiasco. Most notably, we did a win. Additionally, at some point during the evening I made a full house and was not rivered for the lot. Plus, sometimes pots were heads up or 3-way and not some 9-way suckout fest.

I started the night a little cautiously and played the following hand, probably quite badly, but I don't hate it. I know it's a bowl pot, but I want opinions plus I do like to remind those who have forgotten just how nitty I am. I raise to £4 5-handed. The blinds call, flop is . Check round. Turn is a , check to me I make it £7 and the bb calls. River pairs to and he does that thing fish do where they hastily cobble a value bet together and he comes out with a bet of £22 which is pretty much pot. He's playing around £80 behind so raise-folding isn't really viable, and at the same time he's one of those "I asked the question and got my answer" types so might fold an 8 here a fair bit of the time. I know that on its own is no reason not to raise, but he clearly has a value hand. Expecting a lot of "just shove and close your eyes," but is flatting really that terrible?

This game was a lot less crazy than the games Gala is renowned for, but everyone was doing a lot more folding, so we just picked up a ton of small pots and everything seemed to be going our way. I barreled on Ah and actually pinged the on the river this time, as you know I have a nasty habit of missing those combos. All was well until a hand I played that will make its way onto the PHA board. I won't say what I did on the river, but I'm still not sure it was right. We got the Beltons against a tilty fishbowl, flopped top set and filled up on a turn that completed a flush but just couldn't get all of it on the river even after a 10 minute dwell. The very next hand I raised and got heads up with this fairly nitty kid. ought to crowbar some of those chips from my opposition. I bet, he raises, I jam, he calls quite quickly and turns over the at the same time as the dealer peeled another ACE on the turn! Oh dear, the wheels are starting to come off!

Completed the small blind with in a 6-way pot and flopped trips again. Some nights I am truly blessed; my lifetime EV curve must look like a crayon drawing by a young child. I bet £3 and everyone calls. Turn gave me quads. Perfect. I was just about to reach for a tiny £8 bet, when I hear everyone getting excited about the "quads bonus that Gala which I had somehow forgotten about. They're all looking over to the chart in the corner, "£180 for four sevens!" they're saying. My inside voice does a little grin, and everyone calls again. This pot is getting pretty juicy as it is. The flopped flush draw completes on the river, and I'm expecting some full houses out there, so I danced with the idea of a massive overbet but instead went for the check-minraise. Unfortunately everyone else went for the check-fold and I picked up no additional chips, but the free casino money was pretty sweet!

That was about the highlight of the session. We finished winning £280 or thereabouts, plus the £180 quads bonus, just about got me out of Tuesday's hole. After that, though, I got two more tiny pieces of rungood.

1. When I was at the cash desk, the cashier had to peel the waxy 50's from one another. I knew what this meant: sequential money! I know it's not worth any more than a battered and bruised and crinkled old £50, but it's just one of those real-life easter eggs.

2. I wanted a special place for my sequential money when I got home, but found that what I thought was a new stash spot was not a new stash spot at all and found another dusty £500 hiding away. I'm calling this a £1k night Cheesy

I'd be checking every other potential spot just in case there's another forgotten treasure somewhere.

I must have missed the memo about being drunk and annoying in public today.

Pardon the redundancy; I realise to most of the world "annoying" and "drunk" are synonymous, but apparently over here in the sticks between the hole that is Nottingham and the protruding faeces that is Derby it seems to be perfectly acceptable to - for example - premiere your new Last Night's Bottom Shelf Whiskey cologne at the local bank. If you're fresh out of that, though, it should be noted that you do not qualify as both drunk and annoying unless you ride your bike in a slow, wobbling, pseudo-bipedal motion (such as would be exhibited by a mentally subnormal 4 year old) down the road in front of oncoming traffic. Be sure to notice said traffic, but fail to take the basic, necessary precautions to avoid getting run down, as your goal here after all is to be as annoying as possible. You are encouraged to bring a friend, or a date, or a family member along. However, if you're from Long Eaton (or Arkansas), just bring the one person along and you will fulfill all three criteria.

Thanks for listening.

With the 55, against anyone decent i would def just call, raising you will get called by better way more than u get called by worse. Against a fish its closer, i think its still more likely he plays a FH this way than 8x and he will find the fold button sometimes anyways. Just calling is fine imo.

Hello, my name is Sean and last night I got owned so hard.

I don't remember the events leading up to the river so well, but it went roughly like this.

Raised to £3 pre, two callers, I call in the cutoff with , big blind calls.

Flop (£16)

OR bets £3, two calls, I call, big blind folds.

Turn (£28)

OR bets £3, all call.

River (£40)

OR checks, player 2 bets £20, one fold. We make it £58, OR folds and player 2 calls.

We annnounce, "I got it this time," and roll over the straight flush.

He picks up his chips to leave in disgust as he rolls over for the second nut house.

What just happened? How did I just leave £150 on the table?

So many questions.
