One of my earliest trips to Vegas was in 1995 with a friend pre poker playing days
We stayed at ballys so decided to use the monorail to go t the stratosphere
The monorail stopped at dunes or Sahara no problem we will walk said my mate
Very bad idea we were stumbling thro back lots of Thai massage parlours ,n all sorts of shit places getting funny looks off rednecks luckily we are both big lads so nobody said anything ,but I can assure you it's intimidating
Walking along the strip is fine but as it's so bright n sunny it never seems farfrom say Caesars to the Venetian but it is
As for walking from the stratosphere to downtown don't even consider it it's one of the worst parts of Vegas ,you would be putting yourself in danger plus after the end of April it's just too hot
We got on the wrong bus at the nugget one day catching the boulder highway express Bhx ,going out of Vegas thro skid row we could not get off as it was obv too rough an area ,never in all my days have I seen such a motley collection of nutters alkys or crack heads weirdos as were on that bus
The one back wasn't much better either

Ok it's 100 degrees, dry and everything is a mile away.
So without sounding like a right girl what's the deal with clothing. I've heard that some card rooms are too cold with the AC turned right up!
What's the score with packing? Do any of these joints have dress codes?
I don't want to be the sweaty guy next to you on the table that we all complain about on these forums. Is it shorts and t-shirt with a rucksack of hoody's?
I'm hoping to play one wsop event. Is it colder in there then say the card rooms at Venetian/Golden Nugget?

I stayed at the Tuscany for a few days a couple of years ago which is on Flamingo just near the corner (Flamingo and Koval) where Tupac was shot. The area is sketchy but certainly not the hood, likely to get a couple of beggars etc. I walked back from the strip not felt any danger, it is a pretty main road with lots of traffic and I doubt many of us on here are a target like a gangsta rapper is.

clubs etc have dress codes, casinos nope.
it's so joke hot outside that they all have to have ridic AC.
a hoody should suffice in most places, however as you note the rio is different because of the conference rooms they use. they are massive, overnight with no players in the temperature drops to stupid cold, then the more people pile in in the day it heats up and at points people complain it's hot but for the rest it's too cold still.
if you mention the temperature to the floor they essentially just laugh because it quite literally takes like 2 days for the ac to have any actual affect on the temperature so it's not like they can do anything about it and they do do their best to keep it reasonable as they all have to work there.

Shorts t shirt n flip flops is what most wear with a hoody
It was v cold in the rio last year
Also the nugget ballroom is v cold too
There is no dress code apart from a few nightclubs ? You can wear almost anything

The Grand and the Ballroom at Binions aren't that cold at all, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I wear jeans in June, but I'm a weirdo. Shorts, t-shirt and hoody does for most.

In certain parts of the RIO during WSOP it is positively baltic. The sales they were making out of WSOP hoodies was out of this world! I always carry a backpack round with me with a hoodie in it.

I think we need to go back to basics.....
If you've been to vegas a lot, you can start to experiment staying offstrip/apartments etc. If you haven't been to vegas much, such as asking what to wear or how far strat is... then just keep it simple. Have a very solid idea of dates and must haves/must not haves and let those on the board find a bargain or two. For example, I found PH for $47. Given that, there really isn't any point trying to stay on Fort Apache for $45.
We'll find you a decent option at a very highly knocked down rate. Then while you are there, try walking to wherever it is you think you might want to stay next time. Chances are, you'll think "wtf was I thinking"
Vegas is big and Vegas is hot @ WSOP. No point telling anyone that tho until they've been during June/July. They tend to then say.."wow, its big + wow its hot"
Nice and simples... $50/night is decent for centre strip, and those in the know on here know which hotels $50 is ok value and which hotels are incred value. If you are getting a solid hotel at that rate, you can't be doing anything wrong.

Planning on going from 3 June to 20 June (17 nights) sneakily leaving the day of EDC. Expect to play a fair amount at Rio and cash (Aria, Bellagio prob). Really enjoy staying centre strip and having options and chance to jump in a game with an empty seat when walking by the poker room and easy access to different casinos (as I don't drive) and doesn't need to be super amazing or anything. With that in mind I've got a price from Expedia of £676.63 for Harrahs as it is convenient and not awful and has Rio Shuttle for days I'm not in a hurry. If anything can find me something fancier for not much more then I would be tempted!
PS great thread!

Looks pretty decent if you're just looking to grab somewhere central, so that you can grind up and down the strip.
Only had a quick look, but at first glance there didn't look to anything similar at a cheaper price.

Looking for flights from around the 17th June to around the 12th July. Happy to fly from anywhere in england and back to anywhere but preferably manchester. Economy is fine unless Premium is a good offer price!
Virgin is around £800 for these dates so any improvement on this would be grand!
Any news on Virgin sale? Easter sale pleaseee!

Think the Virgin sale is in the pipeline, along with the 'moononastick' sale
Try Thomas Cook from Manchester, but other than that you're going to be paying around that for direct flights.
