John u were on my right last night in the dtd sat, I knocked u out when u had 22, I had the mighty J8, other guy had Q10. I got there with a 4 card straight lol, think I had to call, was in bb for 4k had 1800 back, I'm all in automatically next hand and not gtd to get a seat, what do u think?

so glad that was you... I fist pumped the river on your behalf.

unsure about my 'call' but I just couldn't fold a pair with only a few bb's.

John, I always look in here but must confess I skip hand histories in the main in diaries.

Your last post is superb though.  What is it for you that has turned around your mental game?  I believe from the tone, and from memory, that you have not always been so gracious in defeat, and had some other obvious mental game leaks.  I hope that is correct.

a few things...

mainly some growing up, but couple that with meeting talking and befriending so many people in poker that have good or positive aspects about either their attitude or game... or both.

I've also played a lot of poker for an amateur in the last year, which has helped me improve in my game and obviousky the more you play the less any individual hand can ever mean.

glad about the changes and the development in my game, I've continued that attitude through to today which I'm glad about.  My problem hasn't been doing something once, twice or three times... its doing it ten or twenty in a row.....

Played a little live today at the hippo after work..

Got involved in two big pots, one where I had K10cc on QxQcc in 3bp and lost to AQo, bah....

Then lost J10cc vs 97ss on 842ss for a chunk... he turned his hand face up (theoretically) as I have a pretty solid read on him and with the dead money in the middle and the read I took the aggressive choice and made him decide for his stack on the flop.  He took a while and eventually muttered something about 'pot odds' and called all in.
I hit the on the river. Sad

Never mind... played really well and didn't partake in the 'ego-wars' some of the other were (despite what above looks like).

Then just played the DTD E3 and E30 satellites...
managed to bust the E30 with three diamonds vs on two spades after I checked back flop.
but won a ticket in the E3 so freerolled it.

Had an amazing meal cooked by mi'lady which consisted of steak and prawn home-made kebabs with rice and salad, she used Naga chilli powder which gave it a really nice kick.  First time in a long time I've actually felt something was pretty spicey. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

nom nom nommmmmmm

nn all....
time to thank her for earlier, going to make sure I wash my hands first.

I wouldn't normally try so hard, but didn't have another opportunity I could wait for. I wasn't ready to surrender what I WANTED SO MUCH, that easily, I couldn't guarantee a call with me staying stoic and relying on a flinch "top pair" calling reflex.

I've played a lot with him and he will be 3bt-ing the broadway flush cards pre, rarely has 2p, only has 88-JJ for value and has all the low straight/ flush draws when he raises flop.

limps in front of me, I iso J10cc CO, villain calls button, and tilted bb comes along.
limpers fold
bb donks 20> 35, I flat, btn makes it 80.. donk folds, I shove 220.

he takes 2-3mins to call off.... we almost hold. Sad

I know it looks like'standard' jb spew... but I know he had one of the few hands he actually calls with.  He just has random air most of the time.

im happy with it.  More upset about the K10cc hand vs AQ on Q4Qcc but stacks were too short to get away.

You never 'know' for sure JB, cos if u did u would be millionaire by now.. But u think u know what types of hands he has.

Looking from the outside, I think you are reading too much into situations. So many hands at this level are winnable by having the basic knowledge of poker. It really is like 'printing money'.

Matey, have you ever thought of giving zoom a go?

I'll give you a quick run down of my online poker. For standard NLHE tournaments, i'm down lots. For standard cash, I'm just about break even. For omaha, im about break even. For HU sngs, im pretty profitable, have about a 60% win rate, maybe a little over. For lowball games, tournament and cash, im well up. The biggest profit I've found however has been in 6 max zoom. Basically, the pot button is your friend, play hands in position, and be very disciplined vs any resistance.
.
If i'd limited by poker to HU sngs, zoom and mixed games, i'd be up my fair share for online poker. Instead, I'm down, although I'm getting back on track towards break even life time now.

don't know John from Adam, but this is so true.

Just be better than them, it's easy and simple. If you find yourself on a table where the 'printing money' thing isn't working, then be aware that you've table selected badly (maybe you're in a deep 1/2 game wth the dtd geniuses, for example) and then you might need to get the preflop 76 bets and the flop 'i shove JTs on 942 because fuck you that's why' plays outta the book but be aware that you'll be paying some learning tax (and that's fine as well btw, it literally is the best way to improve quickly.

If you have unlimited money, go sit with the geniuses and relentlessly pester them IRL/on here and pay your learners tax.

If you do not have unlimited money, take the learning process more slowly, sit with the fish and be happy that beating them up, each and every night. Don't go to the moon with a bare Jack high, ever regardless of the spot you think it is, etc etc. Just. Print. Money.

and then rub it on your titties. wash the Naga powder from your hands first though.

@Mulhuzz, Drennie- John has been told this for 237 pages of this blog. You'll see posts like that from me in the first 50 pages, and many others in pages after that. I've long thought it's a lost cause, this game just isn't for some people. I know it sounds harsh to say, but this hand and so many others in pages gone by, illustrates perfectly that you don't get it and never will. This sums it up:

How do you think villain plays 88/44/22 in that hand John?

YOU

DONT

HAVE

TO

WIN

EVERY

POT.

The amount of times in an online sesson I turn to my housemate and say "lol this guy has to be bluffing here" or think to my self in a live game "wow this looks joke bluffy" and then i fold anyway cos my cards aren't such as that I can do anything about it! I know "poker isn't about your cards it's about what you opponent has" well whoever first said that is a fucking genius as he sat there repping a weak hand and letting people spew off into him. Poker is about (vs gd players) your range vs their range, and exploiting the gaps in between, and (vs weak players) your ACTUAL hand, vs their range.
