To be fair Sir Mohammed of Farah is literally the greatest ever British sportsman of all time ever ever ever.

That's what they said.

And he's an arsenal fan. He'd have been happy with 4th.

Farah was an average runner until he met Salazar. He's worked with three coaches linked to doping. One supplier of epo. Trains in Ethiopia with no testing. He's lied about his links to jama Aden, known epo supplier. He's lied about not hearing a tester at the door.Worthy winner.

Get me on that Quorn after Xmas, and I'll be in the disabled Mr Olympia by 2020.

Under 3,000 votes cost Doobs his super-banzai.

And only 18 votes sees the 1/100 Joshua top 3 odds go down.

I know many people think Froome is drugged up, but for him to only come 7th after winning the Tour and the Vuelta is a bit of a travesty.

He's no more or less likely to be a cheat than Hoy, Cavendish and Wiggins.

Can he still be disqualified?  It was painful enough without seeing the voting figures.  Only 160/1 tho ffs.  I was tempted to not mention it and hoover up it all.

I did lay Joshua too, so it wasn't so bad, but as painful as a winner can be.

£20k left to lay on AJ in the place market when it was suspended.

BBC picked their own winners this year didn't they? And second. And third. And narrowly out-of-the-frame Sky Box Office 1.14 shot.

Hope this isn’t classified as after-timing, but I always thought this was a badly named trophy/comp at best, and a joke at worst.

Seems the great BBC voting public is beginning to think so too. Or is it the cost of casting a vote that’s reducing the number of voters? Last year Muzza got 247k votes, and 362k in 2015. A clear, worthy winner backed up by 6 figure votes.

Mo gets 83.5k and nicks it from a total unknown (outside of his NI fanbase, whose coordinated efforts secured him a runners up trophy), whilst 3rd spot goes to a guy who’s just appeared on BBC’s Strictly. Coincidence?

At least it went to someone who has actually deserved the trophy; albeit for achievements of the past and notwithstanding the unproven allegations about doping. Although I can’t help thinking that it was his sick toddler that actually swung it for him...

It's free to vote on the BBC website, you just have to register (which you also need to do to watch their iPlayer). Harry Kane could have easily won if THFC had promoted it to their fans at Wembley, email or Twitter. Missed opportunity there.

I agree with the general thrust of SPOTY dissatisfaction, but I think it's a little unfair to suggest Jonathon Rea is an "unknown".

He has won World Superbikes for three straight years, in a very competitive sport. 50,000 or more fans turned up for the Donington leg, & they are all genuine fanatics.

Logically, of course, it's a nonsense that Jonathon finished 2nd & Lewis Hamilton 6th or whatever.

That's what happens when the great British public get given a vote. See Brexit.

I think it also shows if you can get an active campaign going, anyone can win it now.

It used to be a big night but I don't even watch it now.

When Joshua, Hamilton, Froome etc are coming behind Rea and Peacock you know its turned into a farce.

So you think that someone from a more popular sport should automatically win it over a 'niche' sport, even if both people are world champions (or equivalent) in their respective sport?  - by that logic in a non Olympic, non World Cup year, the captain of the Premiership Champions should win it every time. Where was Gary Cahill's nomination?

Eh?

It becomes a farce when a niche sport can drum up a campaign which distorts the general publics vote and real view of sporting personalities and hero's.

It becomes a publicity stunt for the sport which is not the intention of the award.

the results of the general public were recorded and published. For example Rea got more votes than Hamilton. If F1 fans aren't motivated to vote for a British World Champion for the award then he doesn't deserve to win does he?

What is the intention of the award?
