the results of the general public were recorded and published. Rea got more votes than Hamilton. If F1 fans aren't motivated to vote for a British World Champion for the award then he doesn't deserve to win does he?

What is the intention of the award?

The intention is to celebrate the leading and most successful sportsmen and sportswomen, with the public voting choosing the outstanding achiever/personality.

When a guy that 99% of Joe Public haven't even heard of comes second, almost winning, you know the process has been manipulated. It doesn't reflect nationwide public opinion in any meaningful way.

I watch plenty of sport and I'd not heard of him.

When you have, as an example, a Brit as heavyweight champion of the world, historically the most iconic sportsman on the planet (something we could have only dreamt about in most of our lifetimes) coming behind Rea and Peacock, you know the vote is flawed.

Don't think I can buy that. 99% of the public have not heard of Jonathan Rae? Nah, am sure you are incorrect there.

I bet its not a million miles away.

I watch plenty of sport and never heard of him. Horneris mentioned not knowing the guy on here.

Doesn't mean he's not talented, I'm sure he's super talented but he is from a relatively niche sport when compared to sports like heavyweight boxing, F1, etc.

Do you think the average punter would have voted for him above Joshua or Hamilton, Tikay?

I had never heard of him until yesterday. Would think something in the 90 might be quite accurate

Me too although I was at school with Joe Ehrlich's lad for a year or so.

I watch more sport than anyone else I know, including a lot of niche stuff, and I'd never heard of him either.

Interesting blonde demographic. I'm not a Motorsport fanatic by any means but I knew who Rea was, I'm surprised at how many don't.

He woudn't have been value if lots of people knew who he was and he was priced at 1/10.
