Did you ever look at ROI per bookmaker?
Yes.
We do best with Ladbrokes (+13% over 68 bets) & worst on BetVictor (-10.5% on 82 bets).
Why do you ask, Keith?

To put it into perspective I have it on good authority that at the moment a certain Mr Blooms operation is running at about 5%......

Just out of idle curiosity what is fred's ROI thus far?
According to the spready, it is currently + 3.80%.
£25,779 staked, current profit £980.75.
The "sport-by-sport" breakdown is quite interesting. We've wasted a bit.

Interesting reading sir
Does it want you to concentrate your efforts more on your profitable sports and possibly cut back a little on the losers
Stands Back!
Agree 100%.
I'm pretty embarrassed at our losses on Basketball (£671) & F1 (£263). "Embarrassed" because I think I was too slow to pick up on the fact that we were doing so poorly on both. That's my responsibility - I need to be "firmer".
It was ridiculous to have got in so deep with Basketball before realising the position.
Guess it's all learning curve.

Was this probably because you felt you had to place these peoples picks through friendship more than anything in the early days.

I would be lying if I said I knew for sure but I would guess he probably has close to 200 bets a week. They cover a LOT of leagues.

Could you take a guess at how that is made up - "outright result", "Over-Under" goals markets, etc?
At a guess, what % would be pure "outrights"?

99% of his football is asian handicaps and under overs goals. He can't get anything else on in the size he needs although I believe they use the exchanges a bit so that might be slightly high.

It's quite hard to say "no" without giving offfence, though I've got better. Now, I EITHER need good reviews of the bet from others, or I need to feel that we have "value".
Good reviews from others is far & away the most important thing factor in the equation. Followed, I suppose, by the tipsters previous record. In the absence of either, it's down to me.
For the record, I don't blame anyone but myself for poor decisions. And fwiw, I think we are really well served by those who contribute - there is now a good understanding of bet sizing, & everyone knows I am super-nitty. So people are not scared to stick up £20 & £30 jobbies.
I think one thing we have done well is to limit MAX's to far & few between. I think that is how it should be. A MAX is only for very special opportunities.

So he does not muck about with, say, Corners & other sub-markets, but presumably that is because there is not enough liquidity?

I would think its long odds on that if you had the same type of footy bets for the next year and the same basketball bets the ROI on those sports would be much closer together. Don't beat yourself up with the basketball figs Tony, sample is tiny.

I think you have progressed significantly in knowing where yours and all others strengths are and that can only be gained through experience.

I did add a "sample size" caveat. We have to start self-examining at some stage though.

We need to add in the "fun factor" too, this is very important. I hope there will always be licence for a few fun bets, if finances permit.
