I miss Mere too. His absence makes me think that he is actually only 12 years old and he has been given a 3 month screen ban by his mother for watching an unhealthy amount of women's tennis matches.

I would like to thank the person who started to big up Mr van Gerwen in the darts. I have backed him in his last 2 matches and I guess I will have to back him all the way now.

Not JUST women's tennis - he watches women's golf, women's cricket, anything female that moves. He is a genuine student of form.

He is rather busy at the moment, gallavanting around the country from what I hear, but we very much hope he will be back amongst us soon. He still keeps the Spready in immaculate shape, too, entering everything up, taking great care with the <, >, & ^.

The van Gerwen chap? We think it was BAZZABOY.

Which reminds me, we have an anomaly to clear up. Might need a ruling, this.

Good morning.

The Michael Van Gerwen darts bet.

I'm afraid I kept missing that, even though I seem to recall that is was bumped several times.

He is now 50/1 with Betfred.

1) Is this still a worthwhile bet?

2) Win, or each way? EW terms are "half, 1,2".

I have taken a tenner for myself, & if we agree it is still a bet, I'll transfer it across to the Fred account today.

Also, do we know who the original author of the proposal was, as I need to assign it to someone if we take it?

BUMPETY BUMP

I Posted the above last SUNDAY.

It refers to the upcoming PDC Championships, NOT the current thingie in Dublin.

His current best price is 40/1.

I "reserved" a tenner at 50/1, but asked...

Should it be win or EW?

Who was the original owner of the bet? (We now know it was BAZZABOY)

I have already placed the bet on my own account, but will tx it across if we agree it is a Fred bet.

i am very keen to get with scotland tonight in some way or another

having seen wales in there last 4 games i just cant have them at all . The decision to change captain halfway through a campaign smacks of desperation to me , however i havent seen scotland enough to really judge them i would say they are almost certainly more solid than wales

Ahh, morning, & thank you for the e-mail to the Show last night.

Channing gave a great answer, but you wrong-footed me a little.

I think, maybe, my best gambling "moment" would be the year that Steve Davis won his first World Championship, 1980 I think.

I started backing him 6 months earlier at 16/1, & every time I backed a winner on the horses, I invested the proceeds on a further bet on Steve. Over those 6 months, I invested a LOT of money on Steve, & he ended up 7/2 when the Championships began. Green out? Betfair never existed in those days - in fact the internet had not even begun - but I had a few savers, obviously, & I took a few bets on him from friends so as to massage my position.

It was quite a thrill for me some 3 or 4 years ago to get to know Steve quite well, via poker, & I get a little excited down under even now when we speak.

Barry Hearn told me THE greatest Steve Davis story ever ever ever, but it would be a tad indiscrete to retell it yet awhile. It'll be in the book. Wink

"In view of the the recently revealed fetish of "squeezing" the result"

Smiley  Reminds me of the old tennis scoreboards.  If the guy you were opposing was serving at deuce at 5-5 you only leave uncovered his "game score" so you can see the 5.  You then obviously want that to stay at 5 and then periodically slowly uncover the yellow "serving blob" next to his name.  If the game score remains at 5 and the serving blob has vanished then it is time for a fist pump because the guy you have backed has secured a break.

Not sure how you'd explain that behaviour to an alien.  Smiley

Jeez, that game will be the football equivelant of a really bad selling plate at Southwell, which, after studying the card in depth, you arrive at the view that none of them can win.

I do agree, though, the Welsh football team are in a real hole right now. Presumably, Scotland are, too.

Bale has been carrying a heel injury but will likely start. Spurs won't be impressed if he comes back in a cast.

Fletcher makes his prodigal return, I assume. At least Scotland has a goal threat now.

Scotland actually have a pretty decent side when they are at full strength, problem is they have one of the worst Managers in the game.
Having said that I think they will get the 3 points tonight.

The market is almost any of three.....

Romain Grosjean is 25/1 on Sky Bet (Idk if you can get better prices elsewhere) to retire on the first lap of this weekend's Korean Grand Prix. He's retired twice on the first lap this season (Monaco & Belgium), and once on the second lap (Australia). As well as that, he's been involved in other first corner accidents where he's been able to continue in the race.

He was banned for the Italian Grand Prix for causing the first corner crash in Belgium, but despite that, and saying that he has been working on race starts since then, he still managed to take Mark Webber out on the first lap of the Japanese Grand Prix.

His history of running into people on the first lap, and that despite his ban he's not improved, would suggest that 25/1 is worth sticking a few quid on.

Andy!

Sorry I missed this.

We have a bit of a problem with F1, we just don't seem tio be able to do a thing right, so I think we might do what your man does - swerve.

A great spot for those who like F1 though, you must be a bit if a FI geek, am I right?

Hopefully we can have a catch-up tomorrow up at DTD, will be grand to see you.

For those not aware, Andy is a great lad - very decent poker player, used to keep a nice Online Diary - from next door. He does not Post much next door these days, but he is very welcome here.

San Marino have scored 18 goals in 22 years

However, England to win to nil is a prohibitive 1/8

Looking at their last 15 competitive away results, going back to 2007

Away (most recent results first)

0-4
0-11 (Netherlands)
0-8 (Finland)
0-8 (Hungary)
0-6
0-7
0-5
0-7
0-6
0-10 (Poland)
0-4
0-7
0-3 (Cyprus)
0-6
0-3 (Wales)

gives a mean score of just under 7-0 (99 goals conceded in 15 games)

Whilst the trend in International football is for the minnows to be improving, at least in organisation, such that scores of 1 to 4-0 are more commonplace than 7-0+, San Marino do not appear to have reached that stage yet

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/internationals/world-cup/world-cup/england-v-san-marino/total-home-goals

Match Home goals

Less than 6  9/5

6-8 11/10

7 or more 8/11

9 or more  5/2

I wondered, for discussion purposes, whether we could consider 9+ at 5/2?

thoughts on Serbia/Belgium game tonight? Think its gona be one of the most interesting games tonight for a neutral and I quite fancy Belgium @ 79/40 on pinnacle (19/10 on betfair i think) They have a full strength side to travel to Serbia whereas without Vidic I think the Serbians are going to be a very weakened side. Also alot of the Belgians are playing well for their club sides. (Hazard being the obvious one) and I expect him to run the show tonight. Think they are going to have enough to take out the Serbs tonight.

Edit : The draw @ 9/4 could also be decent value. Peoples thoughts?

Can't do any harm shipping it across to Fred can it?

I can only hope the draw in the Worlds opens up much like it has here.
