2016? Blimey. Don't think I need let that cost me any sleep.

Are you using the belly-putter these days too?

I was using a belly putter 12 or more years ago, before I even had a belly.

Not quite sure how it will effect odds of players. Probably not a lot to start with, but the players will have to change at some point.

I could go on about things like this in golf for ages (and would get very boring for most) and I don't wish to derail this excellent thread with my gibberish.

"We had 65% possession tonight. That's more important than goals"

Brendan Rodgers, giving an idea to why Liverpool are so routinely overbacked on stats.

However if Suarez doesn't score, no one else does Brendan!

He really said that?!?!?

I am a big admirer of Rodgers, but that is a monumentally stupid thing to say.

Interested in the views of the snooker statisticians regarding the 147 potential in the upcoming UK Champs. Decent range in the prices here with Skybet going 13/8 while BetFred are top with 11/5.

I know the standard has gone up massively in recent years and so 147's are nowhere like the rarity they used to be (much like 9 darters) but not sure how this correlates to the likelihood in any given event.  The fact is that this and the Worlds are the most likely though due to the length of the matches and the quality of the players taking part in those long matches.

There have already been two 147 breaks in qualifying for this tournament (making it 11 total for the year) and so my hypothesis to be confirmed/rejected is that the layers have not caught up with the increasing probability of these coming off.  Perhaps similar to the mispricing that famously occurred back in the day with hole in one markets.

Thus we should have a decent wager (say £50) on the 11/5 with Betfred - giving us a longterm sweat for the tournament on top of the hypothesised value.

During the last World Snooker Championships I got two tips. The first was that Hendry was flying in from China the day before his match with Bingham. Bingham was a small favourite in the match but, according to what a friend of mine had been told by Steve Davis, the effect of a long flight makes it impossible for anyone to play good snooker (it affects fine motor skills or something like that) and so Bingham's odds were massively too long.

The second tip was that the price on there being a 147 in the tournament was a little too long; the same sort of thinking given by Jamier-Host in the post above ^^^

Next day, Hendry played the best snooker he had played in years and almost whitewashed Bingham. And OF COURSE... in the process of so doing he made a 147.

Guess which bet I had decided to lump a BIG chunk on, and which bet I had decided to ignore? FML lol Smiley

As an added kick in the teeth, Hendry got destroyed in his next match and instantly retired from the game. The jet-lag clearly took an extra couple of days to catch up with him.

I've got a short list of games for this weekend.

Possibilities for me include :

Notts County at Rotherham in FA Cup at 7/4. Too big a price for me. Notts County have been very good away this season, and whilst Rotherham have improved, they can blow up at home (eg losing 3-2 to Wycombe recently).

Dag & Red at Torquay in L2 at 11/4. Torquay seem vunerable at home currently and D&R have seen much improved form.

Port Vale at Sheff Utd in FA Cup at 9/2. Utd want promotion and think FA Cup will be viewed as a distraction. Port Vale been very handy away from home and Micky Adams going back to Bramall Lane where he was sacked will be very motivated.

These are the type of bets I prefer generally.

Perhaps Tighty, Camel etc would give a view. Happy to take criticism on the chin!

I think he's beginning to feel the Hodgson pressure (club too big etc etc).  Pressure makes you say stupid things when you're trying to justify the direction you are taking a club.  Personally I think he is doing a good job if it's part of a multi year rebuild plan, if it is remains to be seen.  His biggest mistake is obviously being so short on strikers.  Nice of Bale to nod one in for him tonight.
