Here's a nice read before bedtime:

In cycling, the 2013 edition of the Tour of Beijing will likely be decided by tomorrow's mountainous fourth stage (so likely, in fact, that tomorrow's Stage 4 odds are analogous to the GC odds (which I am still waiting on)). Whereas in previous years, the ToB has been mostly a flat affair, the introduction of a "queen stage" has made this year's event one for the climbers. Tomorrow will see the riders tackling a Cat 1, Cat 2 and a Cat 3 climb before dealing with the final 12.6km (ave. gradient 5.7%) grind up to the summit finish of Mentougou Miaofeng mountain.

As a result, the riders fancied by the bookies for the general classification are all very good climbers: Daniel Martin (2/1) is in great form and is one of the top one-day classics riders in the world; Rui Costa (6/1) is the new world champion and has a very strong team behind him; Christophe Riblon (oddly 50/1) won the Alpe d'Huez stage in this year's Tour de France, and Richie Porte (also oddly 50/1) is the obvious successor to Chris Froome at Sky.

There is one very good climber that has seemingly been ignored by the bookies: Benat Intxausti of Movistar. The most likely reason for the long odds (150/1 @ PP; 125/1 @ Bet365) is that he is the teammate of Costa, and is thus expected to ride in support of him. However, there are a few factors that go against Costa as the favoured Movistar rider:

(1) He has just achieved a major goal by winning the World Championships in Florence, and may feel that he has done enough for the year (and for his team's reputation).

(2) This is his last race for Movistar before joining Lampre in 2014 because he felt he did not get enough opportunities under Valverde and Quintana (could possibly act as motivation to show them what they'll be missing, though).

(3) Intxausti is arguably a better climber than Costa: He finished ahead of Majka, Roche and Konig in Stage 20 of the Vuelta (which he rode as a domestique for Valverde), and placed 8th overall in the Giro, including a stage win.

(4) Costa reportedly contracted a cold/flu in the week between the World Championships and the Giro di Lombardia (in which he rode in support of Valverde). Even though he is a top professional, he might be feeling a little burned out.

All the above makes me think that Benat Intxausti for the general classification (in other words, Stage 4) of the Tour of Beijing represents excellent value. I recommend £5 e/w at 150/1 with PP (or 125/1 with Bet365).

We got a pitiful amount on with both, but it still comes to a potential return of over £50, and we'd not sniff at a nifty note blowing down the road.

Be365 refused to allow me EW, but they did permit me to bet WIN, for.......£0.12.

PP, meanwhile, were very generous, £0.63 EW.

Confirmed.....

Its maybe time to reinvest some of these winnings on Taylor to win the Worlds.
Only Bwin and Sky have 2/1 left.
Can see him being 6/4 or below come mid December

Is that a Recommend?

I cant access Bwin at the mo, but Boyles go 15/8.

It'll all be gone as soon as the compilers wake up.
Bwin have went 6/4 anyway.
Yeah take £80 @15/8 for the World Champs.
Their's 2 more Tv Tournaments before it, one of which is a new Tournament with the top 16 involved, Taylor loves to be the first name on a new Trophy and he will take all the beating again.
Surprisingly he's 2/1 for that but without seeing the draw I would leave it at the moment.

We took the 15/8 with Boylesports, £80.

Today, apart from Taylor....the Jags/Broncos game where we have both sides and could do with the middle coming in! Also the other NFL positions will develop.

What is our ideal score in this, please?

Broncos win by more than 21.5 but less than 26.5 1st - playing the middle

Broncos win by more than 21.5 and more than 26.5 2nd (Win the bigger bet, lose the smaller bet)

Any result that sees Broncos win by less than 21.5 (or Jags win) 3rd (Win the smaller bet, lose the bigger bet)

We have Broncos with a 21.5 start for £165 and are with the Jags with a 26.5 start for £110

This could be close.......Denver currently lead by 16, with 10 minutes play remaining.

What a great spot!

Missed out on the 150/1 but happy to get 80/1

I laughed when he made the final breakaway and the commentators didn't even know who he was.

Cheers....

A link to the result.

This might just be the biggest priced winner we have ever had.

Hope a few lads got on.

Fred got severely restricted, £0.63 EW @ 150/1, & £0.12 (!) win @ 125/1. Still very handy though - over £100 for an outlay of £1.38!

Thanks for all the lovely compliments. For those that didn't watch it, the main contenders were attacking all the way up the final climb ... Costa and Martin both had a go but couldn't make it stick. Our guy timed it beautifully, looking like he would win easily, but near the end was starting to get reeled in. I thought I was going to have a heart attack when Dan Martin made his final attack. Glad I could help a few Fredites get the week off to a good start.

PS. Adzy, that's payback for that wonderful golf double you gave me. Still my biggest win Smiley
PPS. Not much cycling till next year Sad Will have to find a new line of work.
