scotland results are intresting
56/59 seats go to SNP but they only got 50% of the vote the turnout was up on previous elections but down on the referendum
so it looks like the snp managed to get the yes voters out to vote it doesnt look like there has been much movement to they yes camp despite what looks like huge results for the yes camp

Today I am proud to be English.
Forget the policies. Its about Common Sense. For once we haven't been suckered in by the promises of anyone. We all know that all parties spout a load of BS, Conservatives included.
However, the people can see that things over the last couple of years have stabilized, and appear to be heading in the right way. The Common Sense is not making some knee jerk reaction and falling for the BS, but seeing what is actually going on, and running with it. Expecting anything else is supposition.
England has shown some Common Sense, and not decided to plunge us into a new round of uncertainty. There is enough of that in the world at this moment.
I for one am very happy that after it all.
Ed Balls up out too. A happy day indeed.

Interesting that Cameron was saying Vote UKIP end up with Labour/SNP yet it looks like Vote UKIP get Conservative. Have UKIP mostly taken votes off Labour or is their vote from previous non-voters?

Pretty much spot on. No voters not as motivated to vote. The losing side was always going to be galvanised. I didn't vote. I wouldn't have missed referendum vote and was at the station at 7:01. Stunning result though. Hats off (not eaten). I think it's a tough 5 years for SNP. The magnitude of the victory means they will get all the powers. Anti Tory message will weaken the further we get from Thatcher years. Also a flock of inexperienced MPs means I sense a number of scandals! Media is going to be all over them. Interesting times ahead.

Britain is utterly divided.
The UKIP vote is horrifying.
I gather you live in the middle of nowhere Keith. Maybe that's why you find it so horrifying. #untouchedbyrealworld. I'm pretty horrified by the level of UKIP support as well - people seem to take it for granted that democracy is a the ultimate aim for good government; but government by 'the people' is a terrible idea when you realise just how awful 'the people' are.

I imagine UKIP get votes for all sorts of reasons, not just out and out racists but disillusionment and Anti EU feelings too. The road to 2017 and the referendum(s)? will be interesting!

They are all talking about how if Farage doesn't win Thanet, he will quit. Objectively speaking though, IMO this has been a huge success for UKIP, to get that share of the overall vote. UKIP should be pleased with what he has done.

Farage IS UKIP.
There have been some real idiots standing for UKIP. Imagine how well they could have done, without some of these people.

True. I wonder, however, if the sheer number of UKIP candidates who shamed themselves over the last few years helped or hindered the party? Most of us tutted whenever a UKIP politician said something racist or homophobic or sexist, but it always got them lots of press. The bongo bongo land and the gay marriage floods shitstorms might have actually converted a bunch of people who shared those views over to the party.
