this, on the face of it, is quite a facile question

"Why are civil servants so hostile to Brexit?"

they have to try to enact the seemingly impossible, a Brexit that works

Interesting article though https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/07/why-are-civil-servants-so-hostile-to-brexit/

corbyn's briefing paper to help explain Labour's new Brexit policy sent to MPs.

Some corkers in the Q&A section - such as "Could Labour go into an election arguing to campaign for leave in a referendum?"

Answer: "I'm not going to get into hypotheticals." !!

it all reminds me of these classics

Barry Gardiner, March 2019
"The Labour Party is not a Remain party now."

Barry Gardiner: July 2019
"We have always been a remain and reform party."

Sophy Ridge: Sunday 7th July
“Do you want to stay in or leave?”

Barry Gardiner: “Yes”

Amazing to see what Jeremy Corbyn has come out with today. In reality, nothing has changed. The policy is still the same. Labour still want their Brexit deal, but want to block any Tory deal. It's the same as it was last year and people will not buy it.

It's simply too little, too late. Remain voters of Labour will have already switched alliances, I certainly have. I would actually do the ultimate protest vote against Labour and vote for the Brexit Party if they looked like the only party capable of picking up the seat.

Labour's Brexit pinhead-dancing is increasingly amusing. The new policy appears to be that Labour will negotiate a better deal with the EU but may then ask voters to reject it. Or, if you prefer, not.

the agreed Union position as of yesterday is

- whatever deal negotiated by Boris Johnson OR exit date on No Deal should go to a second referendum.
- Remain vs that deal should be on ballot paper.
- Labour would campaign for Remain.

may be a sensible political compromise but it’s still a communications nightmare: ‘we want a second referendum and we’ll campaign for remain against a tory deal but we’d negotiate a new Brexit in power, have a referendum on it, and campaign for Huh?'

James cleverly isn't the most engaging character but thought this was funny

clever

"Labour becomes a Remain party while in opposition, but possibly a Leave party if in government. Does this make it a Remain in Opposition Party?"
