of course it is probably worth revisiting what Boris Johnson said about precisely the deal (border in the irish sea) he seems to be edging towards now, only one year ago:

He described it as "the greatest national humiliation since Suez."

but electorally its far tougher if he has to delay again, i think, so its the powerful driver to compromise heavily now

He also said.....

Boris Johnson called Theresa May’s Border in the Irish Sea ‘a constitutional abomination’ ‘a monstrosity’

I enjoyed this Tweet on the subject though;

Thanks

Meanwhile, i am paraphrasing this as i can't find the Bush comment specifically

but Labour will whip its MPs to vote against any deal. National interest? Doesn't appear to be in the thinking!

Bush says they are worried that voting for it (when it comes with a marked reduction in workers rights for example) would allow Swinson to go round the country hoovering up remainers once Labour has been argued to facilitiate Brexit. However if it votes against it, whither Labour leave voters in the industrial towns (where the concentration of seats and votes lies)?

Labour is in a no win position, it has yet to pick a side 3.5 years on, the fence it is sitting on is almost broken, we are at 11.59pm and their nasty pincer continues

 Reporting a bit of pessimism in the UK camp this morning....are the EU trying to bounce Boris into a deal with him making last minute concessions?

Boris Johnson will write a letter to the EU asking for a delay to Brexit beyond 31 October if he fails to get an exit deal approved by parliament by Saturday, the Brexit secretary has confirmed.

One MP reporting more abuse and threats, not surprisingly from Brexit supporters.

See Antoinette Sandbach.

Thanks Doobs.

This amused;

Pressed by the committee chair, Labour MP Hilary Benn, as to whether this will involve Mr Johnson sending a letter to the EU, Mr Barclay replied: "I confirm the government will abide by what it set out in that letter."

Asked again if that meant the prime minister sending a letter, Mr Barclay added: "You read it out and I refer back to that text."

Why can't politicians ever just give an unequivocal "yes" or "no"?

spanner in the works, but a Brexit deal based on keeping just Northern Ireland in the EU customs union seems to directly run up counter the Government’s Taxation (Cross-Border Trade) Act 2018.

As Jacob Rees-Mogg knows: because it was his amendment...

Johnson has to send the extension request on 19 Oct.

However, *if* Parliament approves a deal *before* EU27 offers extension, the extension request can be withdrawn.

*If* Parliament then fails to adopt necessary implementing legislation by 31 Oct
then
No Deal exit.

So that explains why Barclay obfuscated this morning rather than give a straight yes or no when repeatedly asked if BJ would send the letter.

For the first time, Corbyn now trails Johnson among those aged 18-24.

Who would make the best PM?
Johnson 32
Corbyn 29

Among those aged over 65, Corbyn trails Johnson 62 to 8.

Corbyn is now behind Johnson in every age group, and every region.
