The one thing that’s been hugely detrimental over the last few years is division. It would be difficult to oppose that point.
Brand new PM kicks off with hey presto...division
Don’t like referendum result mew mew don’t like new PM mew mew
If division is the problem how are the mew mews solving it? Obv a logical wizard technique I’m unacquainted with.
It takes two sides to make a division
Why is MPs opposing no deal any different than the division caused by MPs (particularly Conservative, but some Labour) opposing May's deal and causing division a few months ago? Unite behind the deal, get out....
Both major parties are divided, what was along Remain/Leave lines is now increasingly Must leave with a deal/go for no deal
In the country, polls are currently showing 20%ish Brexit Party, Labour, Conservative and Lib Dems. Very rare, and very divided
Why should those opposed to no-deal roll over and go against their strongly held beliefs for the sake of unity when those who opposed no deal, for example, escape the same opprobrium from yourself?
The situation is that Boris has no majority and has to govern to succeed within that, that means emollience towards those MPs in his party who didn't vote for him and people who don't want no deal for him to get stuff done.. Or should do
Whatever successes he achieves, or failures, he and fellow Brexiteers surely have to own them from this point on? No more hiding behind "it would be different if we didn't have a remainer PM" or blaming May or the EU for their own lack of clarity, plans and achievable strategy.
Going to be interesting to see him plot his way through the next five months.
