My fave Peck flick is The Big Country. Although for me, Burl Ives steals it.

i think i like all Peck films. such a natural actor.

My old friend Steve Prezilak used to say, "Is a bloody freeze a today a Tom eh?"

Well I don't know about the rest of the country, but it's certainly a bloody freeze at Chez Rouge. We sleep with the heating off, so on "See you breath" mornings like these, we don't hang about when getting dressed.

In the old days..  (here he goes again) ... when the first job was to light the fire, it might be almost an hour before you got the place warm. These days, I just flick a switch, the heating comes on, and by the time I've made a cup of tea everything is toasty.

Over the years, I've come to appreciate frosty mornings, and now, perversely, I actually enjoy that 10 minutes of perishation.

It's amazing how alive you feel when you're freezing to death.

This just in from Reuters News Wire Services.....


Yorkshire Forced Rhubarb has been awarded Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status by the European Commission, the legal safeguard that protects traditional food and drink.

The PDO award means that only a handful of growers in the ‘rhubarb triangle' between Bradford, Wakefield and Leeds can use the name.

That's a shame, we used to grow some excellent rhubarb up here. Freak conditions in this one patch, we have no idea why, perhaps it was just a happy accident of soil serendipidy, but we were able to grow the best rhubarb ever in my back old back garden. Could never replicate it (oh we did try) it was as if this one rectangular patch that can't have been 5 square metres was blessed by the gods of rhubarb.

Sold the house, the patch is now a patio. Couldn't believe the new owners desicion; they want decking.

Hope you don't mind me posting this here,..I didn't know who else to turn to.  Ever since I moved house my car has been caked daily in bird shit.  I've just seen why.  There's approximately 4,000 starlings circling above my home as we speak.  I took some pictures, but had to run indoors as I would surely have been covered in the stuff myself had I stayed out there any longer.  I could hear the sound of dropping poo as they flew over like a squadron of Stukka's.  I've never seen so many of the little f**kers.  How on Earth will I slaughter them all?  There's just too many, but I must or this will cost me thousands in cash wash visits.  Can I poison their food supply or something?
